I've got an app connected to a camera facing my door. The camera is connected to my desktop which has a facial recognition program in it. If the program detects an unknown face (you create a "friendly face" list), it will search all social media within 50 Sq miles (more or less... you set the radius) until it finds a possible match (sometimes this is 3 or 4 people). When it does, it stores the info so I can view it later. I learn nearly every salesman/broken down car person/ or random knockers name, age and city before they leave my porch. This is how I learned the guy 6 houses down is my UPS driver. Eventually if the person shows up regularly, such as the neighbor UPS driver, it'll prompt me asking if I want to add them to my friendly face list. I also have a security system with cameras, motion sensors, etc...that i can access anywhere. I will be adding on the garage door opener, water leak moniters, and a couple other things soon, as it is compatible with all z-wave devices. Very easy to install everything, I had it up and running everything in about 3 hours. While mine isn't hidden, I just looked at their FAQ: What you need to successfully set up your Ring Doorbell to your Wi-Fi network.
1. Your router/access point must be compatible with 802.11 b/g/n and work on 2.4 GHz. Need instructions to see if your router is compatible? Check out the section below titled: Network Settings: 802.11 b/g/n and 2.4 GHz 2. Ring products are compatible with the following wireless security protocols: WPA, WPA2 Personal, WEP Key, and Open networks. Need instructions? Check out the section below titled: Network Settings: Security Methods 3. Your network name (SSID) can be hidden or visible. If yours is hidden you must know the exact name of your network. 4. If you are using multiple access points or extenders, each access point should have its own SSID. Do not use the same network name for all access points. Need help changing the name of your SSID and/or password? Check out the section below titled, Network Settings: SSID and Password |

It's a cool idea, but social media doesn't have my address, or anybody else's if they aren't a moron. Photos have geotags, and it could search those, but it would be damn cumbersome and slow as molasses. I'm more inclined to call bullshit on the whole idea, personally. |

Sorry to have just gotten back to this thread. The app has not been fully released yet, but it is supported by a major company, this isnt going to be vaporware so look for this within the next 6 months. A childhood friend whom I hadn't talked to for nearly half a decade located my info and called me. He knew that I like guns/security/etc and figured I'd be a good candidate for this beta test. I didn't even have any social media until he told me it was required. He also said the more types of social media you have, the more likely the system will be to find a match. I'm not getting paid to test it but he said I would have the option to get the final version free when it's over. There's only very limited info at this time but it's called FaceTrace (at this time) Idk what the final version will be called.
Eta and the system is still beta but it's saved nearly 40 faces, some of which were on the sidewalk and stepped into my yard for passing bicycles! It's truly amazing. Oh and he is projecting the whole system to be $399 MSRP for the 1 camera model. I don't know if regular cameras work with this (I'd assume if they're high enough resolution they do) but you can add up to 6 cameras to the system. My friend installed my system but from what he says, it'll take about an hour to install the 1 camera system. |

I wound up returning my Ring doorbell after about a week. It started out OK but I noticed a huge lag in connecting to my phone. I heard iOS is better for it than android, but half the time it wouldn't trigger an alert, and when it did, when I "answered" the door on my phone I would just have a black screen with "connecting" and never synch up. This thread is going to cost me a lot of money. IKR, I was just pricing those Ring doorbell cams... Don't bother, they kinda suck. MTBF is about 3 months. Got that alot on the iOS version, 4 different units, none worked. |

View Quote info, link? read the thread |
