An attempted kick at a charging dog, specially a large breed, is a gamble, if you connect you can turn the attack, if you miss you're down and if you're unlucky, he's on your chest tearing at your face or throat. I'd rather have both feet on the ground and fend off the attack with my arms and body, but in the heat of the moment the natural reaction seems to be to kick at the dog. Once the animal launches itself, it's pretty easy to steer them away from you, but it does take a cool head and it's damn hard not to get bit at least once. |

I just saw the strangest looking dog I've seen. While driving through the neighborhood I saw a guy walking what looked like a Rhodesian Ridgeback. I stopped to see the dog. He said it was a shelter dog, mix. When the dog turned around his face was pure pit. It was on a lead and he let it come to the car so I could pet it out of my window. That went well, but when I started to pull off the dog snarled and lunged at me, acted like he wanted to rip my face off. Don't know what pissed him off. ha.
