Awesome. I have to say that the A10 is the coolest plane in the US arsenal.
What is that giving birth, a Galaxy? |
Look up Dos Gringos - "I wish I had a gun just like the A-10" sometime when you're not at work, not near any kids and aren't trying to drink anything.
Ah, the sound of freedom...an A-10's GAU-8A Avenger cannon singing.
You lucky bastard! |
Looks that way. |

Buuurrrruuuummmmpp!!! Coolest sound ever. |
Someone here has been firing one of those all morning long. Sounds great, even from two miles away. |
Thanks for sharing, I used to watch the 111th from PA practice at Warren Grove B.R. here in the Pine Barrens of NJ, always fun to watch.
They never wanted it in the FIRST PLACE. |
My uncle used to pilot one out of Syracuse with the 174th TFW before they transitioned to the F-16. While the F-16 is certainly sexy in its Fast-Ass CAS role, the Warthog just screams, "you wanna pieze of me?"
Awesome.
I got to watch that close up once......very cool! Its nice to know they're on our side! |
I've never understood why the AirForce doesn't like them; can anyone explain their reasoning to me?
I guess the A-10 isn't sexy in the F-15 sort of way, but I can't imagine a more capable plane. Are they hard to maintain or something? |
Not fast movers... support ground troops in a way they might get shot down. I think those guys are braver then hell for getting down in the dust and keeping our boys safe. |
Nice pics Larry, thanks for sharing! I think someone in the GSHTF is missing you lately although the season hasn't started yet.
GSHTF? |
Oh, I can hear those TF34s right now. There is just NOTHING like an A-10...
i have sat in that plane....and i probably busted a knuckle on it too.
23MXS POPE AFB 93-96!!!! |
what the hell is a thunderbolt ? |
Playing OPFOR one time had an A-10 do a simulated gun run on our position.
It was a thing of beauty seeing him roll in on us and even better that it was simulated so I'm alive to talk about it. yak |
Yeah, I guess I do...I'm not talking P-47. |
Yeah I miss the A10
My father stationed at Davis Monthan when I was younger and I used to see and hear those beauties all the time. My favorite |
I was an SP in the early to mid 80's and when I was at Osan and would be on the perimeter during an ALERT I was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo glad to hear them on station over head! Man those are one bad a@# aircraft!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When I was working on a farm in the State College PA area in the late 80's they would fly low and fast up the valley on training flights, probably out of Indiantown Gap?. One days I was on top of the 80' high concrete silo working on the silage blower spout, and 2 of them rolled over, dived, came straight at me, then snap rolled off.
Those engines definetly make a cool sound, always dropped what we were doing to watch them. |
I remembered that someone had that as an avatar when I posted it. Just couldn't remember who. |
Here's another warthog I've used for an avatar when I first signed up for this site. |
I can't decide which is better. Get both! |
Probably the best 'pilots' plane in our arsenal. As close to 'seat of the pants flying as it gets now days in our air force. I watch them every year at the Reno air races. They can do some amazing acrobats! God Bless America!
They should rename the plane the Phoenix, because the program was all but dead and was resurrected when the USAF realized the F-16 just couldn't do the job.
