Probably 95% of arfcom is moderately liberal. They have no concept of personal freedom beyond their personal applications for it. "DON'T touch my guns, but ban smoking in restaurants, fuck the fact that it's private property, and ban tattoos while you're at it, only scum get tattoos. Oh, and fuck the police, they're just the jack booted strong arm brown shirts from the military industrial complex."
Sorry, but that's not the case. Everybody may not like what you do with your personal freedom, but that doesn't mean they're trying to restrict it. You're welcome to smoke, although I believe it's a retarded thing to do. You're welcome to bang lots of women, but not everybody will think it's moral. Doesn't mean they want to restrict it. Drinking destroys a lot of lives. I can't think of a single member here who has seriously suggested banning it. Pornography is indentified as a major catalyst in infidelidious marriages––Nobody's trying to stop you from watching that, either.
Arfcom, as a majority, is full of people who believe that others have the right to do what they want, as long as it does not effect them and theirs. Arfcom is NOT full of anarchists.
Smoking inside McDonalds does effect them and theirs. Not everybody wants to be subjected to your tar and nicotine. This is an example of when your personal freedom directly effects the health of someone else.
Liberty != Anarchy.
My Opinion != your opinion.
It is possible to have a differing opinion on someone else about a topic, but still support that topic. For instance; I do not like marijuana. I don't think people should do it, for their own health. However, I do not believe it should be illegal. So I would vote to legalize marijuana, so one can make their own choices as to whether or not they wish to engage in smoking pot. A stoner would vote to legalize marijuana, just because he wants to smoke and not get busted by the popo.
While we may not see eye to eye on what it is you'd like to do with your life, doesn't make mine or anybody elses' less valid than yours.
Edit: Additionally, reality does not push morality out of the way. Having a conscience does not make you a liberal. Having morals does not make you a liberal.
Having neither makes you a sociopath.
