Americans have been training the FSA in Jordan and KSA for a while. There aren't going to be Americans in Syria, the risk is simply too great. My take on this fiasco is that when the US and GCC decided it was time for Assad to go,they shouldn't have just sat on the loo farting. It's all far too gone for the originally desired outcome. The VERY best that can be hoped for is all sides getting burned out and agreeing to a Lebanon in the 90s uneasy peace. Sorry for the pessimism but I don't see a military solution to IS any time soon, not from capability but rather will. The longer and longer this goes on,the higher the chance of things going to shit in the Gulf itself via Shia in Bahrain and the Saudi's home grown problems raring up and everything those encompass. View Quote I'd buy that, 100%. Except the President, in the words of his own advisors, ducked making a decision out of fear until it was past the window of effectiveness. |

There are merits to helping them be effective at killing one another. What else would they do? They'd end up in France or Britain or Minneapolis plotting to kill Americans on American soil. We sorta -need- a war to soak up the jihadis more local, the lazy ones will go "join the war" and with any luck, get ground the fuck up in it.

Since Obama's policy has been to pull out of area (Iraq and Afghanistan), why on earth would these rebels want to ally themselves with a USA-backed government?
ISIS will simply behead them when the American troops leave. |

The article says nothing about sending troops to Syria. Your title is incorrect. And the notion that there is no moderate opposition in Syria is a big part of the reason we have IS to deal with today. The revolution in Syria began as an almost entirely secular event. If we hadn't been so goddamned ignorant and short sighted about supportin' the Mooslims and them animals over thar we be quite as badly fucked as we are at the moment. View Quote Except that is hardly accurate, it was a Sunni MB backed insurgency just like in the 80's. I love how people here condemned the MB in Egypt but are all too willing for whatever reason to support them in Syria. The FSA's main backing and support has always been the MB. The main opposition in Syria going back decades has always been the MB. They are moderate compared to ISIS sure, but they are still the MB. Why do you think Erdogan is such a big supporter? |

Hmm, my memory is a bit foggy, but I seem to recall a place called Kosovo.
We were just going in to help out, be right back home. But I do recall that before we started the festivities in Kosovo, we sent Jessie Jackson to negotiate. Can we at least send Jackson or Sharpton to Kirkuk or someplace first? . |
