Nice pics!
Reminds me of when I first took my son and friends to the range

What is it about the fired brass and bullets that makes them collect them? All the kids do it.

There is nothing better than taking kids shooting.  I take my boys as often as I can.  Once we were going to the range and we decided to take one of their friends.  His 8 year old sister asked if she could go too, she had never shot before.  She did really well, she wanted to shoot everything I brought, even my AR15.

I couldn't hardly drag him away from the range.  He wanted to keep finding brass.

I just need to teach him to only pick up brass and not steel or aluminum, and to separate it into calibers for me.

A reloading assistant would be beneficial to both parties.

got my son that same lever action for Christmas

have you run any shorts thru it?

I honestly haven't tried.

I will next time and let you know if they feed okay. (If I can remember. )

It fed the Long Rifle cartridges just great.

Mine feeds shorts just fine. I hunted squirrels last fall with CB shorts.

I remember shooting with my grandpa. He was retired before I was born and had a lot of free time. He made a shooting range out back of his house with the pond levee as the backstop. We were always begging to go shoot. If we were good, he would "let" us clean the guns. I don't think he ever cleaned another gun after my brothers and I started shooting.
I was (and still am) hooked for life.
Keep up the good work OP.

My grandpa had a few guns but I never got to shoot them, my dad is kinda anti-gun.  He has them and someday I will get them.

Good job O_P for taking grandson out, reminds me that I need to get my oldest out this summer and introduce him to shooting.

This thread is just flat-out awesome.

When I was a little kid my dad bought me a Browning .22 lever-action. Mine's a grade II.

I still squirrel hunt with it.

On the way home today, he told me, "Pappaw, when I grow up, I'm going to have lots of guns."

A chip off the old block.

Great Job O_P can't wait to take my Grand kids. And I am sure he will have lots of guns when he grows up.....Yours

Biding my time until my Beloved granddaughter is old enough to shoot.

Her Daddy wants to buy her one of those pink-stocked .22's.

Papaw gonna buy her a target .22 pistol.

It'll be a great day when she's big enough for the AR and .45's.

Good thread, O_P.

I wish I'd gotten a chance to shoot with my grandpa.  Especially my Garand and 1911.  He wanted to try those, they reminded him of his days in the military.

O_P, you constantly remind me what good people are like.

If we taught our youngsters about guns and how to shoot in school, instead of forcing them to know that "Mary Has Two Mommies," the current sissyfication of our youth will disappear.

Good job, Andrew! You have a wonderful Grandfather!

I gave my grandson Andrew a Browning Lever Action .22 for his first birthday.  Sometimes when he comes over, he asks me to get it out of the safe so he can look at it.  Recently he told me that he was ready to go shooting, as he "was almost 8 years old".

So today I picked him up from school and we went to the range.  I gave him a safety talk on the way, and he assured me that he knew the "Most Important Rule About Guns:  Never point a gun at anyone."

We got to the range and set up a target for him, put on our safety equipment, and I showed him how to aim the rifle.  He is too small to properly shoulder the rifle, so I showed him how to put it under his arm and aim.

Here he is in action.

http://www.ar15.com/media/viewFile.html?i=27538

He sure was proud of his rifle.

http://www.ar15.com/media/viewFile.html?i=27539

He wanted a picture to show his Mom and Dad his target.  Not too bad for the first time shooting.

http://www.ar15.com/media/viewFile.html?i=27540

I also brought a single action .22 pistol for him to try.

http://www.ar15.com/media/viewFile.html?i=27541

He liked it as he said it was "like the cowboys use".

As I was picking up the target and equipment, he started collecting some range brass.  I asked him what he was doing and he said, "I'm starting a collection.  I'm going to get one of every kind."

I told him he was off to a good start.

http://www.ar15.com/media/viewFile.html?i=27542

On the ride back home, he asked if we could go shooting again.  I told him, "Sure".

He said, "How about next week?"

I think the boy is hooked.

Great job O_P! Way to start him off right!

My son is six years old.
This weekend he wanted to shoot the pellet gun all by himself.
After going over all our safety rules, I let him out on his own, the same as my grand-dad did.
Here is how he came back. Note the safety glasses on head.
He will not shoot without them.
He is my best buddy.

By the way, he said it was a head shot, just like I aimed.

A while back I figured out the difference between a grandpa and a dad:

A dad will make sure you're fishing with the right bait.

A grandpa will let you tie on the craziest, wooblebobble, gaudy-paint contraption in his box and never say a word.

He's just happy that you're happy and fishing with him.

My dad taught me how to fish.

My grandad taught me how to enjoy fishing.

My Grandfather was the first person I shot with, a stickler for gun safety by any measure. He started me shooting an old single shot octagon barrel .22, ejector had long ago stopped working so you had to use a jack knife to pop the mt brass out. Sure kept the round count down! He's been gone 35 years, but I remember my times with him like they were yesterday.
