While I agree that southern ME has been northern MA for 20 years, the other 90% of the star is hard-nosed, hard-working, freedom-loving American Yankee. I'm willing to bet that there are more guns per capita than nearly any other state, and a there are a hell of a lot of hunters and outdoorsmen/women. My mother is 74 and still bird hunts; her mother hunted into her late 70s.

Perhaps the answer is voting by county. 1 county 1 vote regardless of how many people live there. The county electio goes to the x candidate they get 1 electoral vote at the fed level. Not the entire states numbers.
