WARNING!  SPOILER!

I just saw that tonight and it was pretty messed up.  Stupid libtard "i don't want to live anymore so let them shoot me" ending.

Mystic River

This movie really have me and my wife pulled in and then the ending came and we were left with a big question mark. Not as in what happened, but as in "why was the movie even made?"

A friend of mine got it and told me "You have to see this movie, it is done by Terry Gilliam, one of Monty Python".  That only seemed to add  to the deflated balloon feeling I had at the end of it.

The final scene in "The Sand Pebbles" was a real downer, too.

Also, another clinically depressing movie is "The Secret Adventures of Tom Thumb".

Agree with you. I wasn't sure what I was going to say but I think The Notebook was depressing in that it made me cry wayy to much cause its so beautiful but you're like does that happen? It's kind of sappy. Depressing in a way.

Also I'd have to say I am Sam. Don't give me crap about it, everyone says horrible acting by Sean Penn but I would get so depressed I couldn't watch more than 15 - 20 min of it at a time. Had to shut it off and then revisit it the next day or so.

Agreed.

Bridges of Madison County
In Love and War

What can I say, I'm a sucker for love.

I agree with TGM and Bridges (although with Bridges, I was pissed Clint was cast to play a role Robert Redford should have played)...the book was worse:  had me wailing in my jammies when I finished it.
Never saw that last one on SP1's list, so I'll instead +1 The Road to Perdition.

And yes...although depressing, I liked these films.

I can't believe no one has mentioned "On the Beach"

I've only seen the remake with Brian Brown and Armand Assante, so I can't comment on the original, but everyone on the planet dying a slow horrible death or commiting suicide?

Don't forget The Day After and Testament, both about the aftermath of nuclear attacks in the USA. The former deals pretty much with the immediate effects at Ground Zero and surrounding areas; the latter with a more distant community suffering a slower but no less agonizingly horrible breakdown of life as they knew it.

The Day After has the all-star cast (including Steve Gutenberg!) and spectacular Special Effects while Testament is a more thoughtful portrayal of the day-to-day agony of those "lucky" enough to survive.

Enjoy!
