I'm only about 12 minutes into the video but I wanted to post really quick.  I can tell the director has never been to Africa.  They are being overly paranoid about nothing and I'm guessing told Bin Laden told them to leave his compound, not because they were being watched by strangers, but rather it was probably nap time or something and he wanted to end the interview and enjoy his newly found freedom.

The locals will tell anything to get what they want to get what they want.  Truth(hardly ever), but mostly just lies.

Edit.  West point is bad because they don't have toilets.  Are you nuts!?  Human turds everywhere is very common place in Africa.  Cover up his face with his shirt so he doesn't have to smell it?  lol

He's a journalist.  His job is to make it sound like he's really in a fucked position.  Have you watched what the journalist have been wearing in Israel the last few days?  They are already wearing their battle rattle (Helmets, BA, etc.).  Do they really need too?  I doubt it.

He's not in any real danger.  Look at it this way.  They are filming on a camera.  The locals are following them around in droves.  Lot's of witnesses.  Also, they see white people and know there's money to be had.  They'd rather earn the money than kill people to take it.  They kill, and they never get visited again by people with money.

Don't think that those people don't have their own strange type of ethics which don't exist here in America.

That is one messed up country. In watching the video, I see the same entitlement attitude prevalent here in the US. It is sad that a country was made to repatriate former slaves and it turned south so fast. The narrator mentions that the former slaves started a slave business and society of their own. That is irony there. From the looks of the place, it has good soil and rainfall enough to move the population beyond less than subsistence. The sub-third world open sewers simply mirror the people.

I don't care if "Butt Naked" did convert. His crimes warrant punishment. It appears he has a small army laying in wait for the UN to leave. He labels it a "mission".

What did we (the US) get right with the founding and building of this country? Such failures as Liberia demonstrate how special this country is.

I grew up in Monrovia from the time I was 10 until I was 15. Here are some random memories -

- The early ‘60's were considered the golden age for Liberia. Pres. Tubman had a firm hand and had pretty much ended inter-tribal warfare. The diamond mines, and iron ore mines were bringing in money for the govt., and by extension for the Americo-Liberians.

- There was only enough electricity for 6/7 ths of the city at a time, so the city was divided into 7 sectors and each was assigned a day without power. Our day was Friday.

- US gov. and DOD (us) had to order a months worth of food at a time, and then wait a month for it to arrive by ship. DOD employees were given an allowance, but USAID and DOS people had to pay for it themselves.

-No TV, one local AM radio station.

- Don’t drink the water. All of our drinking water was boiled for a half hour then filtered in large clay cisterns/filters. So many US employees got sick from showering in the local water USAID put up a water tower in the compound and a well. Still could not drink it though.

- The largest group of US non govt employees worked for Mobil Oil. They ran a small refinery, and contracted to run the city electrical system. Mobil Oil employees lived in better housing, and every time a Mobil tanker came in the got re-supplied.

- USAID ran a police academy about 20 miles outside of the city. Of the 20 US instructors, 18 were retired Detroit police officers. HaHa.

- My Dad was a USMC Captain assigned to the Military Attache office. The office actually covered 5 or so West African countries so there was a lot of travel. Sometimes my Dad would take me along. I once got to ride in a DC-3 owned by Firestone.

- When you’re 12 years old, talking to a 19 or 20 year old Marine guard is awesome.

- We were playing dodgeball in the parking lot of the embassy when a Marine guard came out and told us that Pres. Kennedy had been killed. We were told to go home and tell our Dads to report the main embassy office bldg.

- The US embassy in Monrovia is on the highest point in the city, with its back to the ocean, about 50 feet above the water. Perfect for USMC ship born units to practice helo evac. Never needed while we were there, but it was years later. Yes, we practiced getting into the helos.

- My Dad bought me a used Honda 90 moped because so many of the US kids had them. His rule was that I could ride it only on dirt roads, never on a paved road. We’ll one day a bunch of my friends decided to ride “downtown” such as it is and I went along, knowing I was in violation of the paved road rule, and that if caught I would feel the full weight of the UCMJ as administered by my Dad. I though I got away with it, until my Dad got home.
Here is what he said to me “I am disappointed in you for breaking my rule, but I am more disappointed to learn that you are so stupid as to think that a white kid with blonde hair riding a motorbike in a black city would not be noticed. “

I lost the use of the bike for a couple of months

- School was the Calvert school out of Baltimore. Lessons and books came once a month.

To this day my sister and I are grateful that we got the chance to live in pre-war Liberia.

At the time though we were not too happy that my Dad’s boss, a USN Captain (O-6) “asked” my Dad to sign up for a second tour.

After Liberia my Dad was assigned to a USMC training unit in Thailand. We he came home from his first day at work the first thing he said was “There is hope here.”

Pretty much sums up Liberia.

Mike

All I think about is Rhodesia, as hard as it to believe now, it was the 10th largest economy in the world.   Which was not bad for a small African country. Now Zimbabwe is an impoverished shit hole with no currency of its own, after their government destroyed it.

Liberia is like a country of illiterate psychotic children, who've been tortured, and abused.  The whole country has psychological problems which I can't imagine get fixed any time soon.  We're talking systemic generational psychosis. It would appear the only hope for that society is some sort of lethal plague.

People are hurt because of other peoples actions.  Being on something does not absolve them of responsibility for those actions.  The person is to blame not the substance.

We’ll one day a bunch of my friends decided to ride "downtown” such as it is and I went along, knowing I was in violation of the paved road rule, and that if caught I would feel the full weight of the UCMJ as administered by my Dad. I though I got away with it, until my Dad got home.

Here is what he said to me "I am disappointed in you for breaking my rule, but I am more disappointed to learn that you are so stupid as to think that a white kid with blonde hair riding a motorbike in a black city would not be noticed. "

I lost the use of the bike for a couple of months

- School was the Calvert school out of Baltimore. Lessons and books came once a month.

To this day my sister and I are grateful that we got the chance to live in pre-war Liberia.

At the time though we were not too happy that my Dad’s boss, a USN Captain (O-6) "asked” my Dad to sign up for a second tour.

After Liberia my Dad was assigned to a USMC training unit in Thailand. We he came home from his first day at work the first thing he said was "There is hope here.”

Pretty much sums up Liberia.
