just for the record as i mod i don't have a lot of say in anything here. SrStaff makes the calls on everything and lets staff tell us what direction to take. We can make an opinion known in the mod forums but anything beyond that is out of our realm.

I rarely involve myself in these kind of threads but I've had a few beers...
The COC has very specific rule(s) concerning the posting of nude images. As a critical thinker, I can surmise that one of the "goals" is not to have porn posted on this website. It's not rocket science to me. If I were to have a sincere concern about the "logic" of such a rule, I'd take it off line with GoatBoy and not make a point of trying to bust the balls of the Moderators. HTH, YMMV, IANAL, KMA, etc.  ETA: critical thinker- For those in Rio Linda, that means I know that 2+2=4. |

The "goals" of the site? You have GOT to be kidding me. That's like asking what are the goals of these shoes? uhhh...that would be for walking. And an internet firearms board's goals is to provide a place for like-minded enthusiasts to share information (ar15), have General Discussions, provide a rallying area for people in your area (hometown), learn about manufacturers (industry), and have accurate, up-to-date knowledge and information readily available (handgun, ak, the armory, etc.)
What in THE WORLD could the goals be other than that? I'm guessing the reason the "goals" of the site was never posted is that the Avila Family has assumed you all are smart enough to figure that out on your own. You insult yourselves by asking these ridiculous questions. And WWII art? Give me a break! Read the CoC! If that were allowed, the next thing you know someone will be saying some other form of nudity is considered art...and use the WWII aircraft allowance as an example - AND THEN LABEL US AS HYPOCRITES FOR SAYING NO. Geez, people...gather yourselves before you ask some of these silly inquiries. The_Beer_Slayer has been 100% on the money and has been very kind by trying to respond to everyone's requests for answers. Thank you, Mike. You're doing a great job. |

I do have the software to 'censor' the pictures. However I thought as they were clearly cartoon nose art on Warplanes that are/were fighting in Iraq they were acceptible. Although 'nipples' are a source of deep shock in the US, we don't have that problem in the UK, nipples, wieners and 'bush' are regularly shown on prime timeTV, no one gets upset, the sky does not fall, the chickens still lay in the morning and the sun still rises. However, I am very happy with the reasons Mike gave me for locking the thread… he did it for VERY good reasons and I accept why he did it. BTW… we still allow nose art on British Warplanes… ANdy |

How can you expect the mods to know what the Avila's think? A police officer in your state doesn't always know why a law is made into a law, but he knows it's his job to enforce said law. The mods are the Police Officers of AR15.COM. When there is a conflict with an officer you go before a judge(Staff), when that fails, Then you might be lucky enough to have the Supreme Court(Avila's) rule on it. Think of it just like that. The Mods are doing there jobs. They don't run the site, they don't make the rules, they are only doing what was asked of them by the People who run this site. |

To address this issue only --------- bullshit It may be against the law to spit on the sidewalk But one does not enforce the law till a person is spitting on peoples shoes. part 2 it may be against the law to Fire a gun in the city limits but one does not cite a person for shooting a dog attacking a child in the city limits in short - laws rules are meant to be enforced with a small amount of common sense. |

damn! and here i thought the goal of this site was so i could make a fast million or twelve and enjoy the adulation of the masses!
the only 'goal' that i'm aware of was that of the avilas starting a cyber-forum in order that firearm owners, specifically of the ar15 variety, could meet and communicate. has this not been the goal since the days of the mailing list? i think ed, edward and juan might all agree that they like to promote actual friendship...remember "friendship"?...among those that vist here. i have been privy to a little from the top dogs here and i haven't seen any secret desires by the avilas to control the web supply of porn...just to keep it off certain areas of the forum. the reason the post was pulled was spelled out pages ago. |

I do wish we could get back closer to topic.
What i would like to see is the Mods given a little inteligent disgretion when enforcing the COC. Ask yourselves should we be following the letter of the code or the spirit of it? The Avila's dont want porn on the site, thats fine. But Nipple doesnt always = Porn. And ive seen a lot of No Nipple pictures here that clearly are porn. Also, our mods shouldnt have to read the Avila's minds, but i do think they should have a general idea what they are trying to acomplish. That said, TBS was probably right to lock my first thead,for the reason stated on the first page of this thread.
And i do think the Mods do a good job most of the time. I love this site and hope to see it flourish. I just would like to see some constructive discusion about its operation. Ben, The_Emu |

We are given the objective standard of "no nips, no lips".
It's clear, and pretty easy for anybody to understand. That's the main point. If the cut-off popint isn't clear, there will instantly be 1,000 posts trying to push the envelope. The rule cited above is so clear that the "Edgy" pic posts of the recent past are a memory. That's a good thing, IMHO. If you wnat pRon, there's loads of places to get it. Just not here. Is that so tough to take? I don't think so. There's even other gun sites that allow far more than this one does. You may not care for the company tho... The mods DO have discretion on how they deal with a violating post: they can edit it, or trash the thread. Usually they take the less drastic measure, if at all possible. Their call, and I've yet to see a bad call. |

Im just curious as to how many people that post here (specifically in this thread)...would have the balls to say the same things they type, in person, face to face, man to man.
I see a lot of trash talk around here...and thats fine, in moderation...but when people start posting images of fucking swastikas...you might want to remember that there are people reading these threads that take shit like that PRETTY MOTHER FUCKING SERIOUSLY!!!!..... Yep, a lot of tough guys indeed...and a lot of kids enjoying a blanket of safety from behind a PC monitor...tossing commentary into the wind with zero regard. Personally, I usually get a kick out of most of the cat fights around here...but if certain people acted in public the way they do in thier posts...they wouldnt have much ass left to kick by now. Macro, just my take on this... Juan would blow his top and rip someone a new asshole verbally... Ed would calmly walk up to someone, rip their head off, shove it up their ass so hard that he was able to reattach it rectally... But that's only because I tried to pick up a check once and he turned this 6'3 275 pound man into his bitch in about two seconds...
The swastika was so far over the fucking line that its beyond words... that Raf didn't lock the account on the spot is proof positive in my mind that mods and staff around here are not jack booted thugs. That shit was inexcuseable, yet instead of going with his gut, he walked away to think about it... THAT is the kind of shit many mods and staff deal with day in and day out. No, asking an irrelevant question repeatedly when you were politely told it was best addressed to those whose site it is would be trolling. We all have our own gals for this website, what it means for us... if you want to know the goals OF the website, ask those who own it. What mods and staff are asked to do is enforce rules... no more no less. If the obvious escapes you, there is nothing I can do to help.

Doublefeed brought up the "goals" issue and I just found that interesting. I was asking the mods what the goals were to see if they knew what the goals were. I was curious if the mods/staff knew the goals and were acting to further them or if they were just blindly following orders. |

as this has turned into nothing but a big poo flinging session i am closing this thread. If anyone has any further questions feel free to address them to myself or staff.
I will leave you guys with this thought. The COC is in place because we have NUMEROUS idiots that can not abide by a personal sense of decency. I remember a time not that long ago where there was no formal COC here. It worked well until people began to constantly push the limits. Now mods spend more time dealing with morons trying to get attention than actual moderation of threads. This site and the COC can not, and never will be perfect to everyone. The COC is in place to give it a best effort for all. I can't tell you how many times i have been called a nazi and watched people complain about the "double standards". The COC goes a long way to solve that issue. Now we complain that action is taken each time a violation is found. We can't do it both ways. We either have a COC that we enforce or we don't. Look at the other sites with no conduct codes. They are over run with idiots that never moved out of moms basement. I have said it before. I don't agree with everything in the coc, but that is not my decision or my choice. I was asked to enforce the one we have, i will do so until staff decides i am no longer needed. This site belongs to the Avillas. THEY are the ones that make the rules and they are the ones that HAVE to answer to members. Some of you guys really give mods way to much credit in the chain of command here. thanks mike |
