What happens to "Goose" the back seat guy?  Where does he transition to?

The back seat of the F/A-18F or the F/A-18G.

Hope they park them and take care of them. We will probably need them down the road.

Davis-Monthan has a bunch of them already. Interesting they have so many A-4s still sitting around. If they're keeping the Scooters they'll keep the Tomcats too.

The Soviet Union and now the Russians have been helping them get F-14 parts and weapons for years...
The Russians are supposed to be reengineering the F-14 for the Iranians.

Oooooo...I'm so scared.

Turkey-lovers need not lament too soon. The subject line of this thread is not factually correct. F-14s will be flying front-line service for a few years yet.

(I always did like that colour scheme, wonder who makes a model kit with those decals?)

NTM

There are companies that make aftermarket decal sets.
Another option would be to buy decal paper, and print your own.

Imperial Iranian F14A Way at the bottom, he mentions taking the decals from a Fujimi’s 1/72 IIAF F-14A release.

You know your military has some sweet hardware when they retire aircraft like the SR-71 and the F-14.  I know they are old airplanes, but they are still awesome machines.

Long live the Tomcats, if only in movies like Topgun and in the hearts and minds of those of us who love great airplanes.

Yep. That's where they will likely go. Middle of the Arizona desert.

Yep. And if they don't fall prey to the elements they will likely succumb to the cannibalist's wrench.

The F-20 was called the tigershark if I am not mistaken.  It was developed by to compete against the F-16.  The F-16 won mainly due to the avaliability to use the same engine as the F-15, which was already in service.

The F/A 18 is not the same type of air superiority fighter as the F-14.  The role of the F-14 was strictly air-superiority, until recently when it was reconfigured to a limited attack role.

Make no mistake, the F/A 18 is a dog that can hunt with the use of Amramms, sidewinders, and a 20 mm vulcan cannon.  It does not have the range or speed potential of the F-14 but it is more maneuverable and better suited to the attack role.  The US is simply attempting to get a multi-role platform in place for the Navy.

One of the main advantages of the F-14 was its ability to use the Pheonix missile system.  This system was designed to shoot down long range bombers out to 100 miles.

Isn't the wing pivot area a solid chunk of machined titanium?

I heard one time that an F14 crashed, burned but that pivot area was completely intact. (?)

I don't think they have any operational ones, lack of parts from the supplier and all.

ETA:  Did anyone see the rows of them as targets in the GAU video?
