Dear Representative Johnson,
I am a former active duty US Marine and a long-time Republican voter. I was very pleased to see the Republican sweep here in Texas last year that kept you in Washington working for us. I support the President and his stand on Iraq, especially in the face of international spinelessness, and I'm glad to see the Iraqis coming out in support as well as US forces remove the boot of Saddam's death squads from their necks.
That said, I was disappointed to hear this Saturday of President Bush's continued support for the so-called Assault Weapon Ban. I viewed the original ban as an assault on my Second Amendment rights and on my ability to protect my family. Especially in these days of heightened terrorist alerts, restricting the options of well trained, law abiding citizens such as myself does nothing to make America safer.
I'm counting on you to do whatever you can to keep any renewal of the Assault Weapons Ban off the President's desk. Anything you can do to kill this legislation will be a service to the people of Texas and, by extension, America. Thank you for your time.
Very respectfully,
Me[/i]
