It'll only bleed for 3-5 days normally. Nothing to be afraid of, it's all just part of the cycle of life. It'll happen every month until sometime in your late 40s.

Sanitary napkin, kotex, or whatever they are called.
Apply with pressure.
Always have them in the 'kit'.

Post a pic of it, then you can get a real opinion.

I would think direct preasure will stop the bleeding since you say it's clotting and must not be too deep.  Plenty of household items can help then.  If you do duct tape it cover the wound with a clean piece of rag, elsewise when you take it off it will reopen and possibly make the would worse.

But, with your screen name I vote for the CAT to the neck remedy

For a back wound rule of thumb is press till you hear a rib crack then back off just a hair.

How deep? is there an object still in it?  Was the cause of injury dirty?

Might wanna think about infection and tetnus too.

More important is 'how long'?  Most people can't resist the urge to keep peaking at it and then the bleeding starts back up again.  Maintain firm enough
pressure that blood doesn't seep out around the wound.  Wait a good 15 minutes and check by carefully removing pressure.  If bleeding starts again then
do it for a longer period the second time.  If you have a good-sized artery bleeding then you don't stop pressing until EMS arrives to take over and get the
person to a hospital.

Probably not going to work. Suppose the injury is round in shape, and in your back?

What's a good way to seal something like that up?

Well, We have it narrowed down to OP either NDed into his back or scraped himself on a door nob.

We should turn this into a vague statement thread.

OP flour will do it plus some compression. Grab an ace bandage and some gauze pads and do the best you can. If you have someone else than can actually see the wound it would be better to let them handle it if they aren't squeamish about blood.  If it's very deep it will continue to seep blood until properly dealt with. YMMV.

Sugar can be used as an antiseptic measure, but it is not a hemostatic.

Without knowing the details, it's hard to recommend anything other than direct pressure with a bandage and discontinuation of alcoholic beverages for the night.  Tampon may work, but when you remove it, the bleeding will likely start all over again.

I've seen tobacco used successfully on some pretty good cuts, but without knowing how deep the hole is, I wouldn't want to risk infection.

Now, spill it.  What did you do?

I stopped buying band aides. I now use exclusively super glue.

If that doesn't work, try a sewing needle and some dental floss.

You sound like me after I've taken a bad spill on the Mountain bike.

It'll get better eventually, right?

Pressure and tight bandages. Don't remove until you're pretty sure it's fully stopped. On your back, I'd bandage it up, then lie on a pillow or something to provide pressure for a continuous period of time.

That said, if it's deep, get you ass to, at least, Urgent care or a 'Minute Clinic'.  I pulled a ~2" stick out of my forearm earlier this year (Epic crash, flying and landing on shit...), and stuff like that is at least worth a Tetanus booster. They aren't that expensive if you hit the places that use PA's and NP's. And they'll tell you if you need more assistance than they can offer.

Instant mashed potatoes can be used as a clotting agent. (the plain kind, not the flavored kind).  The starch acts as a decent scaffold for the platelets to work with.

4 x 4 gauze stacked as deep as needed can be used for just about any cut imaginable. If you can apply pressure.

Ice can be used to slow down the bleeding, but you don't want to give frostbite to the wound tissue - prevents it from healing properly.

Super Glue can close a wound.

sugar can be used as a disinfectant in large quantities.

if something is stuck in the wound, leave it until you reach medical assistance. (assuming it is a serious wound)

I typically hit the area with Betadine, pack with 4x4 gauze, apply pressure and declare victory. Then go to urgent care if it's bad enough to warrant it.

Peeking usually goes hand in hand with:
"Ooh, this bandage soaked through. That's so icky. I'm going to throw it away and go look for a clean one."

Came to post this.

Knew a guy from Jamaica that carried around a small leather bag on his belt.  It had spider webs and god knows what ground up and added.  He was big into Voodoo.  Said the shit worked great (spiderweb stuff AND Voodoo).

He wasn't a big guy, but saw him totally fuck a dude up once.  Glad I never had to find out about the little leather bag.
