Needs more ham.

Maybe that's what's wrong with it...no pork.

And you ate it from a can. Must be homemade!

My Mom made split pea soup.  It was great and is one of my fond childhood memories.  She used a pressure cooker to speed up the process.  I'll always remember the time the relief valve blew, though, and it looked like Linda Blair had attacked our kitchen ceiling.

Never liked it as a kid, but now I'm craving some with cracked pepper and smokey ham/bacon. I'm going to make some at home.

I do not like split peas and ham,
I do not like them made by Mam,
I do not like them from a can,
I will not eat them. Sam I am.

Still your da-da-damn turn to do the dishes.

Freshly-made split pea soup is fantastic. Out of a can, not so much.

Childhood memories and vacation "stop list"

When I was at Pendleton and traveled up the the SF bay area on leave, the windmills on I-5 were a beacon of soup with bacon!  Anderson's helped me realize a soup that looked like snot could be so good.

Fast forward, I have been emancipated from CA, and learned that a Crock Pot, a $.50 bag of split peas, some bacon, and whatever else = pure nutrition and low cost.
