Well damn, everything doesn't have to be so political. Sometimes things just have to be taken at face value. Common man just went into space, it's as simple as that. It's a great accomplishment. Nothing more, nothing less.

I thought you were done.  Everything is political these days.  You can't even shit in the woods without someone wanting to pass some law banning it.
That's just the way the world is.

Not to go off on a tangetn, but actually, I know numerous Europeans that are not NOT jealous, do NOT resent the U.S. for anything, and do NOT hate the U.S.  But the one thing about the U.S. that DOES irritate them are arrogant statements like: "America has evolved so many light years ahead of the rest of the planet that they simply cannot relate to our superior mental wavelength"

Try taking a good look at housing projects in Chicago, or neighborhoods in Miami or L.A..  Parts of the U.S. are no better than third world countries or banana republics, with infant mortality and immunization rates that are worse than developing countries.  Take a good at the drug and gang culture destroying U.S. cities and the failing public school systems that are a joke.  Take a good look at ALL of the U.S. - not just the successful parts - before you explain the "superior mental wavelength" of the U.S.

Personally, I think this is a great accomplishment for Burt Rutan and his company.  America should be proud, because it's the kind of country that allowed genius like his to flourish, and the human species should be proud because he is such a superb example of what humans are capable of.

Pretty darn cool IMO. It is the first indication to me that it is possible for civilians to make it into space.

I watched Black Sky on Discovery last night about the Space Ship One program..I also switched back and forth to "From the Earth to the Moon, Tom Hank's HBO miniseries about the US space program that was on TBS.

The contrast between the two is staggering! Awesome science and really brave people.

The truth remains the truth.  The majority of EU nation states are praying for us to fail.  The revel in it.  We are evolved beyond the rest of the world plain and simple.  Yeah we have our dregs of society as well.  But we are the high end of the curve no matter how you weight it.

List them - and the reasons they are praying for the U.S. to fail.

Because I know a LOT of EU countries that are supporting the U.S. - and other than the French, I don't know of any that WANT the U.S. to fail.

Just bacause you call your opinion "the truth" doesn't make it so.

But we are the high end of the curve no matter how you weight it.

No you're not,

Infant mortality - you lose
Immunization- you lose
Drug and gang activity - you lose
Incarceration rates - you lose
Homocide rates - you lose
Poverty levels - you lose
Access to healt insurance - you lose

I coudl go on for a while - this is just off the top of my head.

I am NOT disputing that the U.S. can easily be labelled the "greatest" country in the world right now, but it is also not the truth to say that "no matter how you weigh it" the U.S. is on the high end of the curve.

Sorry DK, but most of those items you list, those are socialist ideas.
Everyone has access to health insurance, if they choose it as an economic good to purchase.
I don't consider it poverty when these dredges on society have cable tv, cel phones, 2 cars, 2 tvs, high speed internet.  Those are economic choices that they make.  Make that choice, and then demand health insurance, or buy drugs for leisure activity, then you can die, and it won't bother me one bit.

In some socialist countries from europe, these may be problems.  NONE of them are addressed in the Constitution of the United States.  (Except possibly criminal activity)

Actually, while everyone jumped on the other part of my post (the merits of which can be debated endlessly) it was really this part that I wanted an answer to - and which you compeltely ignored.

You claimed that the majority of the EU is praying for the U.S.to fail, and I would like to know who those EU nations are.

Since you made a factual claim - I'd like to know the basis for it.
