I have no doubt he used the question to delay the payment. It was his responsibility to know if it was the right holster before he ever bid on it. You were generous in extending the payment. You didn't have to be generous but it is good business. He took advantage of you again. All of this is irrelevant in the end. Is a jerk worth jerking back if in the end you will have your reputation damaged? Some things are worth more than a sweet taste of payback. Your reputation is one of them.

Refund his money, be nice. Tell him have a nice day. You now have his name and address and maybe a phone number. Order him everything that Franklin mint sells including the Civil war chess set and put bill me later on the little cards. Order subscriptions for some gey porn. Drop his name and address on every free trial membership to a health club or free cruise vacations. List things real cheap on craigslist with his phone number. Nope. Positive feedback only from seller to buyer. Seriously.

lol, yeah what you did was pretty stupid IMO. cost you a negative feedback that ebay wont remove, and the extra hassle. should have just shipped it and moved on.

that being said, at this point i would wait as long as you possibly can without further repercussions to your feedback etc, before refunding him.

i like it, but don't actually send the holster. send him a literal box of shit. with tracking information for delivery confirmation.

i got botach'd once. i opened a dispute, and paypal didn't even look at the details of the dispute. as soon as botach showed that they had shipped it, with shipping information, paypal closed the case in their favor.

I recently had a guy in the Philippines contact me in the middle of the night US time,  asking if I would ship him some items that were clearly listed as shipping to US buyers only. Then he buys them any way before I can ever respond. He never pays,  and when I tell him that No I will not ship to the Philippines,  I get no response at all. No payment ever received.

Had to go through the hassle of canceling the order and wait a week for eBay to process it,  all because this asshole wasted my time,  and  ever even apologized for it.

Fortunately eBay did not ding me any fees.

I had a bunch of older used holsters to unload for a friend that retired from LE. Listed about 10 of them. Had a buyer win a Glock 21/20 Safariland SSIII. The guy waits 6 days and then asks me if it fits a gen4 Glock 21. This is probably something he should have asked during the 7 days it was listed but hey, I had a couple minutes so I looked it up on the Safariland website and looks like he is GTG. Tell him so and expect payment. i have sent two invoices already. Buyer says he is waiting for payday and will pay on Friday. Sunday comes along and nothing so i relist it. Late Sunday night he actually pays so i pull the relist with every intention to send it out. It has been 12 days now since the auction ended. The next morning, I start getting messages asking when I'm going to ship. It has been about 12 hours since he paid. Im busy, so i don't answer right away. My auctions state I will ship within 2 days and I would have. The messages continue and then the guy accuses me of running a scam. This is after about an hour from him starting. I have over 750 positive 100% feedback. After about 5 messages I have had enough and tell send him the following:

Hello sir,

There occasionally comes a time when as a small business owner that you have to "fire" customers. This is one of them. You won this auction February 9th. You contact me on the 16th and ask if it will fit a certain generation of gun. I take my time and look it up on the manufacture website and find out it does. Then you ask to pay a few more days later until you get paid which was supposedly this past Friday. You don't pay until Sunday evening when I had already given up on you and relisted the holster. Now less then one day later you are blowing up my messages and accuse ME of playing games?

No, I will not be shipping this today. Nor tomorrow. Not ever.

Actually I will be refunding your money when I get to it. Please don't bid on any more of my auctions.

The guy goes on a tirade and immediately gives me negative feedback and opens up a case against me thru eBay. I have until the 25th to respond and I plan on waiting until the last second before I take any action. he has messaged me about 10 times asking for his money back and being a general dick.
I will refund the money, but the constant pestering after less then 12 hours after he waiting 12 freakin days to pay pissed me off. Wife says Im being an A-hole and I should refund asap.

You were too emotional...

A good biz man would have communicated w/ the Buyer and resolved the issue according to ebay rules...

Rather than writing a friggin BOOK that the Buyer is going to laugh at any way.

Then getting negative FB...

With a case opened...

Badly handled...

About 10-15 years ago, I used to do a lot of selling on Ebay. I finally got tired of the bullshit from idiots who can't/wouldn't read my terms that were posted on each and every auction. The stupid questions that could have been answered by either looking at the pic or reading the description were also a PITA.

If it were me (as the seller) I would have found 25 seconds out of my busy schedule to shoot him a quick e-mail/message (after his messages started to come in) stating it will ship within 2 days. Problem solved. How the guy handled the auction/bid/etc. was annoying (to you, I'm sure), but he eventually came through and in good faith paid. But how you reacted/responded wasn't a hill to die on, and the time it took to draft that long-winded message (that I'm sure made you feel good drafting) could have been better spent (after all, you said you were very busy) with a fast "will ship within 2 days" reply.

Exactly.  Giving him product only opens the door for him to make claims about empty boxes, broken holsters, wrong item, etc.   A refund precludes that and you'd be out the holster and the money.

Yeah, I stopped selling on eBay about 4 or 5 years ago.  Just got to be to big of a hassle with buyers scamming you and there not being a thing you could do about it as a seller.  At my peak I was grossing $100k+ a year in sales on there but even then they would never side with me.  Had several buyers even say they got empty boxes or never got an item and ebay would refund them and I was out the item and money.  Not only that but you have to use Paypal with ebay as well which is another scam in itself.

Here's something most people don't know -

if the buyer doesn't want to pay for shipping insurance, you should pay for it out of your own pocket

because if the PO damages the item, ebay will side with the customer and refund his money

I don't understand why people sell on ebay, there's no point
