I thought engraved firearms were pimp too, until I went to the Texas Rangers museum in Waco Texas.
IIRC, grateful citizens started the tradition of presenting Rangers with the bling, with the Peacemaker and then with 1911's.
beautiful pistols, and those men carried and used them with pride.

I have appreciated and aquired nickel plated ever since, and hope to get something engraved that has a well used character before I go to the great gun range in the sky.

What's wrong with it?

That's a BBQ gun and I'd LOVE to have it.

Doesn't matter how gaudy it is, you can't open carry it anyway.

Illinois is not Chicago and we all don't like the Bears. Now that that is settled, here is how the Germans would do proper engraving, not that shit done to that poor Colt.

The fact that somebody's trying to offload a shitty 1911?  Good for them.  They probably want to be rid of that POS.

I would take this pistol if it had engraving that wasn't letters or the initials of the guy that had it engraved

gold plated?
is that a pre-production Deagle?

i'll give you $200 and brick of .22 LR for it, even with the leaves and twigs carved on the grips...

You have no taste in asthetics, no sense of beauty. You'd probably turn down a beautiful woman if she had several tattoos just because she has tattoos.
I'd proudly carry that pistol (without the Texas hand guards of course).

That's some nice engraving!  You have to appreciate the fact it took some time to do it

With that said, I don't find it appealing.
Link Posted: 1/11/2014 6:27:20 PM EDT
BTW, what's IL going to pay for the abomination of a politician who they sent to the White House?
Link Posted: 1/11/2014 6:29:08 PM EDT
I'd own and display it!
I guess the shoe fits...
Link Posted: 1/11/2014 6:29:42 PM EDT
I never really understood the whole engraving thing, but it helps if you look at it as a work of art that just happens to be done to a pistol instead of say, a bedpan.

that's not nice engraving!

it's shit

there's just a lot of it there

engraving is an art form and that shit-tastic mess is not a good example, it looks like a high school shop project

I'm not even talking about how tacky and tasteless it is

Link Posted: 1/11/2014 6:32:26 PM EDT
THIS is good engraving

Those are high quality engraving jobs. Whatever that is on Gunbroker looks like an LA Gangster got ahold of a dremel, smoked a blunt, and went crazy on his "gat". Blech.

well you would pay a whole lot of money for that

but there are some very impressive factory-engraved brownings out there

look up "browning superimposed"

like this -

That looks like it was chopped into by a 7 year old.  The close ups make me ill.

I too would be proud to own and carry that at the BBQ, or to court if I was an LE.

I can't wait to get open carry in TX just because I want to see all the ridiculous pistols
my fellow Texans will be sporting.

I'll just be carrying my boring G19 or perhaps a G34 on the very rare occasion that
I choose to open carry.

Perhaps I'll brake down and get a 1911 that's pretty enough to carry at the BBQ party.
My Colt series 80 is too butt ugly to carry in public after carrying it for 30 years.
She is sure a good shooter however.

So, a street tagger is learning to engrave?

Yeah, they ruined a good pistol.

I don't care to open carry with any regularity, but just once I'm going to pack my USFA  4 3/4" .45 in it's floral-carved El Paso Saddlery rig.
then I'll go back to my concealed glocks or pocket rockets.
