Had the police called on MG shoot we did too, because MGs are illegal in MN, thankfully the MGs we were shooting were owned by the police, so the police officers just called dispatch and told them what was up.

I was shooting a few weeks ago and the neighbors kept yelling at us to stop, and he eventually called the police. They showed up, asked if anybody was drinking, and then just left. You could tell the neighbor was fuming mad that he called the cops and they didn't do a single thing (because it's perfectly legal to shooot on your own land, obviously). Despite the number of dick cops out there, there are still some good, friendly guys out there as well. If he calls them again, I might just invite them to shoot a bit with us

Handing a cop a full-auto anything is something like feeding a black bear a box of Crispie Cremes.  You'll never get rid of them.

Is the 7.62 Nato conversion a "destructive" conversion that renders the MG-42 unable to be converted back to the original round or is it something more simple like just a barrel swap?

I talked to an old man that had a table at a gun show many years ago. He told me at Omaha beach,  the US 30 cal. Would go rat-a-tat-tat  and the German
MG42 sounded like you had torn a sheet. He said it scared the hell out of them.

Some have been known to fire as high as 1800 RPM

On a slightly unrelated note, my grandfather got hit with an MG42 on D-Day.  A round punctured his helmet, ran the side of his head, and exited the back.  Eventually a Sgt. told him that he was bleeding and to see the medic. They put a bandaid on it, and sent him back.  Later, a Purple Heart arrived. He never told us about that Purple Heart out of embarrassment for getting one for such an insignificant wound-- after seeing so many maimed and killed.  We only found out when my mother sent off to get all of his medals for a display and discovered that he had two Purple Hearts. He told us after she quizzed him about it.

I've never fired full auto before. It's unlikely that I will, being Delaware is commie-run.

We have machine gun shoots near me three times a year.  It's very well-attended, and there are ARFCOMMER's there who are very generous with their guns, if you supply the ammo.

Send the wife and kids to Disney in September.  Head over to Brooksville for your own 'Magic Kingdom' day.

I got to shoot an m1928 Thompson a few weeks ago, and it was simply awesome. An MG42 and M2 are next on my machine gun list to shoot.
