This. Nikon actually advertises that as one way to use their mounts. I don't see anything wrong with it. You have to do it on the short 3X P-223 scope, which is what's on the gun in the OP. The mounts won't fit if you face them both forward, like in the top pic. The scope is too short and stubby. We have sold several setups and always have to mount them just like that. Nikon runs a mount promo every year and you get the mounts free with the scope. So the guy probably got a good deal on the scope with mounts, and used them in the only way possible. Quoted:

I'm not seeing the problem... Neither am I. Can someone explain what the problem is? Cantilevered mounts like that are normally used with both rings facing forward, to allow enough eye relief by moving the scope forward. But with a short, stubby scope, they both won't fit and you have to turn one backwards. OP thinks the scope is mounted "wrong" when really, it's the only way to attach that scope to an AR using those mounts. |

Shit, I like it. If I can find a promo with free mounts I might get one. I've got an upper that needs a scope.

Looks way better than mounting something on top of a carry handle. Whatever. http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t151/sleepdr/8C8A0165-744F-4E6B-8660-0DB7B6CC4B8F-15918-0000068B8E63607C_zps3ce4109b.jpg beowulfx just shit his pants |

Fucking '08ers. |

OP would shit bricks if he saw how I had an old ATN 5x33 mounted on a rifle using an Aimpoint rail grabber mount. It worked just fine although it looked goofy as hell.
|

Not bad at all. Pretty good idea actually. Seems like you spend way too much time trying to find a fault somewhere.
|

|
Only problem I can see with it is there is no room for a BUIS.
I'm not sure how you'd be able to mount one with that scope, though. |
|
I invented that method I call it the beowulf^ as you can see the two mounts make a upside down v. If anyone is interested I will sell the first production model for 1 qaudzillion dollars and I will sign it for five more. Let me know...

OP, you paid attention to all the wrong people at ARFCOM.
Also, there is nothing wrong with a scope mounted on a carry handle. It isn't ideal, but not everyone has a flat top rifle. |
|
|
I expected a pic of a high scope mount on a rail on the carry handle, and about 8" of height above bore.
That just looks like a solid, if slightly unorthodox method. Honestly, I think it looks pretty good. Would really look shit hot on a billet upper.

I get exactly where the OP is coming from....but after thinking about it for a couple seconds, I also came to the conclusion that...by God, if it works....
