You guys giving it shit would have a heart attack after going around limerock with some of the drivers that I know. For fucks sake. It is one of the purest sports cars to ever be mass produced. Tourqe is for trucks and brakes are for pussies. Still like my turbo Miata better. Miata doesn't over 9000 rpm |

Torque is for S2000s too. That's what makes cars go. It's just that you have to keep the engine up north of 6,000 RPM to see any of it.
There is something quaint about a car that gives you 300 ft-lbs of torque beginning at 800 RPMs. You need displacement for that though. No getting around that. |

S2K's are badass and there lots of FI kits out there.
One of the better roadsters. |

Just don't get mad at me and park your F-350 on me bro. Sorry that most get hung up on torque and cup holders... |

If Honda would make them again I would be in line for one. If they make it look like a gay version of a Miata I may not.....

What 2-seater sports cars are on the US market nowadays?
Miata... Chrysler Crossfire is gone Pontiac Solstice is gone Saturn Sky is gone... and good riddance. More expensive, heavier, and less power than the Solstice, and they came off the same assembly line. Then you get into the next price class with the Z4, and SLK. The Miata dominates because it can be had for under $25k. Unless I'm missing something, that means there's a gap in the market between $25k and $45k price points. Honda needs to strike the right price and value with the new S2000 or they'll just be canceling it again in a few years. |
|
Lots of used ones around, but most have been thrashed and some have been crashed. 1st gen's were known to bite the driver. I was looking at used ones, and seems everyone I found had been crashed per carfax.
I've always wanted one too. |

Why did the S2000 get discontinued the first time around? Seem to recall it being a downturn in sales numbers. |

It's funny to watch people go apeshit one way or another over a car. I'm a car guy. I teach people how to repair them for a living. The saying "to each his own" comes to mind. Would I buy an S2000? Probably not, as it doesn't fit my needs very well. If I was buying a fun-ass track car, yeah, I might. I bought my STi because it did what I needed it to do, and wasn't going to put me to sleep driving it. My other car dyno'd at 688hp to the wheels, so I'm very familiar with going fast.
The S2000 handles like it's on rails, and is almost fast enough to keep you from falling asleep on the street. On a road course, fun as fuck........but since I don't drive to work by going around Watkins Glen, and I live where it snows in May, and I have a family.............not exactly practical. Like I said, for a pure track car, sure. For a daily driver, depends on the driver. |

The people that would buy one, did. Better to take it away for a few years, rather than to maintain sales by allowing a revised generation to be designed by committee. You'd have an SUV version by now if they did that. |

Sadly, the car in the OP is just an old S2K with a body kit. An ugly body kit.
Honda has shown no sign of bringing back the S2K, sadly. They seem to have lost all interest in anything sporty lately. |

As a Lotus owner I can tell you its a pleasure to own/drive one although I do not recommend it as a daily driver. Upkeep on this baby can be expensive and or a chore (tires/oil changes/mods/factory recalls). While the engine is mostly reliable it is not Toyota's benchmark for reliability. Also, a minor fender bender at 2 mph can total the car since the panels are custom made from the UK and extremely expensive (4k just for a clam) not to mention how easy it is to bend the frame. So while the car is 'attainable' I don't believe it to be cheap to own although the Lotus owners will say otherwise. Plus the future of Lotus is currently not looking good. Still love the car though |
