First look at the "Appleseed 10/22" Ruger put out at SHOT.
Basically a 10/22 set up for CMP-style smallbore shooting. Modular stock from the Ruger American, built in aperture sights (plus rail), stainless, extended mag release, threaded for flash hider or suppressor. My big question -- did they put a target hammer and sear in there? If so, it will be awesome to have a 10/22 ready to go off the shelf. The target hammer isn't 100% mandatory but it sure does make a significant difference. Despite having plenty of .22s in the safe, Kind of Want!

Not a big fan of the stock but the rest of the rifle looks good.

Aperture sights are a big win. There a bunch of bolt guns I would be more likely to buy if the had aperture sights. I will probably get one of these instead of buying tech sights for my marlin 760
|

It's not about "target", it's about a good trigger instead of some grabby, sticky, grabby pile of crap. Every rifle needs a good crisp trigger, not the usual trash that is just about standard on modern guns. It's a fundamental design feature that is neglected. |

All you really need for a decent trigger on the 10/22 is something like a Volquartsen hammer. I put one in my "Appleseed" rifle (an older 10/22 Deluxe with Tech Sights and USGI sling) and it made a world of difference. Much crisper and more predictable break. It's a $30 part and takes 15 minutes to swap in. |

I am have never been to an Appleseed since they always fill slots before I know if my schedule will work. I am however, hoping the weather cooperates this year and lets me finish widening my backstop so I can host an event. I have contacted the local coordinators and they want room for 30 participants. That means I need about 100' of berm. I'm close and was hoping to have it done last spring, it was just too wet. Looking forward to this year hopefully. |

Only complaint is that I hate the Mini 14 birdcage. I wish they'd just shitcan it already. |
