Earlier reports stated he was transporting a dangerous flammable liquid concealed in the vehicles fuel tank.

I saw that with some where between 4 to 8 igniters hidden under his hood.

6 quarts of highly dangerous petroleum based hazardous materials hidden in the engine.  Such material, if released, would have been highly dangerous to bystanders and the environment.

And a thick, petroleum based grease suitable for making "napalm" hidden in the axle bearings.

ETA:  If this was generally law abiding Joe Schmoe who made his legally owned Tec 9  go full auto with a shoestring...............federal PMITA prison.  But an obvious criminal with a long rap sheet - right back out on the street THE SAME DAY with ridiculously low bond.  WTF???????

Yes, either the Po-lice locked up a bad guy, or they are engaged in a conspiracy to get a new AWB passed.
Either scenario seems equally plausible.

Tec 9 is one of a very few "assault pistols" that are banned completely in md.

 Aren't all "assault pistols" banned in MD, other than with an AOW stamp?

No, they only ones banned are the ones specifically listed by name in MD law.

after June 1, 1994, a person may not;
(1) Transport an assault pistol into the State; or
(2) Possess, sell, offer to sell, transfer, purchase, or receive anassault pistol in the State, EXCEPT; A person who lawfully possessed anassault pistol before June 1, 1994 may continue to possess the assaultpistol if the person registered the assault pistol with the Secretaryof the State Police before August 1, 1994.
An assault pistol is defined as any of the following specified firearmsor their copies regardless of which company produced and manufacturedthe firearm:
AA Arms AP-9 semi-automatics
Bushmaster semi-automatic pistol;
Claridge HI-TEC, semi-automatic pistol;
D Max Industries semi-automatic pistol;
Encom MK-IV, MP-9, MP-45 semi-automatic pistols;
Heckler and Koch semi-automatic pistol SP-89;
Holmes MP-83 semi-automatic pistol;
Ingram MAC 10/11 semi-automatic pistol and any variation including the Partisan Avenger and the SWD Cobray;
Intratec TEC-9/DC-9 in any centerfire variation;
P.A.W.S. type semi-automatic pistol;
Skorpion semi-automatic pistol;
Spectre double action semi-automatic pistol (Sile, F.I.E., Mitchell);
UZI semi-automatic pistol;
Weaver Arms semi-automatic Nighthawk pistol; and
Wilkinson semi-automatic "Linda" pistol.

Some of those are pretty hard to find. Tec-22 rimfires are legal. any carbine or sbr version would be legal (sbr with stamp). Interestingly enough, even though the skorpion is listed as banned, the state roster board just approved the vz61 skorpion for sale last november, which means they are legal to purchase even though they are also banned.

This one was made by Luger!

I'm surprised they did not also nail him for transportation of a pistol, but that might be under the concealed deadly weapon charge.  You're only allowed to drive them between your house and your FFL, hunting activity, gun range, or business you own.

It was probably a Hi-Point carbine but "Tec-9" is the same as "AK-47" to reporters.

A kid got caught a year or so back near here transporting a Ruger 10/22 with a 30 round magazine along with a couple ounces of marijuana.

The news reported he was carrying an "AK-47" type rifle

Bullshit...

People like that are incapable of making an honest living...

They are morally & self-control deficient, and cannot function in society...

He would be a criminal even if drugs were legal - he would just be engaging in different crime...

For example, he might rob convenience stores or banks, instead of drug houses....

The rap-legend/cool-power of the gun apparently overpowers it's abject crappiness in the real world...

Add in some 'hyper-cool-power' holler-point cop-killa bullits...

And you're good to go on the firearms fail train....

(Nothing against JHP ammo, it's very effective (but not in the way the thugs think it is)... Just making fun of the folks who go with a crappy gun for 'style points' and expect it to feed said ammo)

The driver of the vehicle, Norman Leroy Davis, 35, of the 2300 block of
Glenmont Circle, Silver Spring, was arrested and charged with
possession of a concealed deadly weapon, possession of an assault
weapon, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon (Davis has a
conviction in Montgomery County for possession with intent to
distribute PCP), possession of a stolen firearm and possession of
marijuana.

There is only one charge in the above quote which should be an actual crime.

ETA:

The burden of proof should be on the state to prove the suspect knew the firearm was stolen as well.

Don't get me wrong, the guy is probably a scumbag, but that doesn't change my opinion of the bullshit malum prohibitum laws.
