I know some hornets are active at night. I'm not sure if they are European or Bald face. I know European are active so you may be better off killing them during the late morning. Also I had a nest of European hornets that the spray wasn't very effective on. It killed them but it took a minute and some would get back up and fly afterwards. Good luck

Most of GD is retarded. Get some long range wasp spray - 2-3 cans - and douche the nest after nightfall focusing on the entrance area and then upwards. . Repeat as needed. Done correctly itll be a dead nest within 72 hours.

Yellow jackets here live in the ground. Nontheless, fuck them all. Good luck to the OP. Please take video or at least pictures-

I deal with wasps almost daily, been stung dozens of times.
Run 15 ft away and you're usually good. Burns for a few min, usually. Been stung ONCE by a hornet. Left a HOLE in my hand, permanent scar, took a week to heal. Hand ached for days after. They're like the special forces pissed off insect. They hover and rotate around you staring right at you until you piss them off. Then they'll chase you faster than you can run until they get bored. Have fun. |

I had a next the size of a volleyball in my plum tree. I waited till after dark at night, blasted it with a high pressure water hose to rip it open, then soaked it good with some long distance wasp killer. I kept using the water to rip it up, and alternated it with another can of the wasp killer. In the morning there were bits of nest and dead larvae all over the ground under where the nest was...not a single alive wasp though.

Tomorrow morning I am going to do recon and then make ready. I plan to pickup a few cans of canned hornet death. I have the house cam pointed at it and will also setup my iphone. I strike at midnight tomorrow.

It’s the only way to be sure. Quoted: brake cleaner does work, yes. iirc, gotta get the green can. If you’re gunna do that Berryman’s is the best. It’s also highly flammable. I mean, most brake parts cleaners are, but Berryman’s is on a whole other level. |

Some wasps built a nest inside one of the electrical outlet housings on my dock.
Luckily there is a clear plexiglas panel so I can see inside, and luckily I noticed it. I used Ace Hardware wasp and hornet spray and had just enough space in the bottom of the housing to spray inside without opening it. We’re talking a space probably 3” wide, 5” high, and 2” deep. I counted 25 dead wasps that fell out when I opened it…and a few fell in the water before I could get an accurate count. I would think a nest the size that the OP posted could easily hold a couple hundred hornets. ARFCOM recommended Ace Hardware spray, and it killed them in a hurry. Raid doesn’t work. |

I went up in my barn loft to kill wasps one morning recently when the temp was in the mid 50s. Wasps can't really fly when it is cold but I'm not sure about the hornets that live inside a nest like that. They certainly can fly when it is dark outside, I wouldn't want to stir them up and not be able to see them. |

We've had some kind of new red wasp hanging out here that I'd just as soon see go away. Big chunky suckers, sting hard, and pretty much always in a bad mood. Never seen them here before until the last couple of years.

Fipronil (Taurus SC): we used a sprayer to give a small hornets nest a small squirt at the entrance.
They were all dead in 1 day. Unfortunately, any other insect that touches the nest will fly back to their colony and kill it off, too. It’s a nerve agent. |

We were at the beach this summer with some other families. One of the kids kicked a ground nests and the wasps nailed every kid within 30 feet. The screaming was horrific. It was state park land so my usual quart of kerosene approach was nixed. |
