Time for me to get my VA CHP permit.

I know the most popular answer is a Glock 19.

However I can not stand my pinky finger hanging below the mag. Do the mag extensions work?

Where I work firearms are banned, so I never got a CHP since I could never use it 95% of the time.

I would also like to minimize the ammo sizes so I would prefer a .45 that conceals well (but could stock 9mm if needed).

What would you recommend? My budget is $500 - $1000.

Thanks

ETA: I should add...The firearm I own that fits my hands best is the Glock 21.

That is a bit to big to conceal carry IMO.

If you want .45 and like the glock 21. Get the 36. I have it, it's not that different

Personal choice for me every day?

Sp01 or p938 or glock 36.

Sometimes more than one of those.

A glock 21 isn't to big to carry. I'm wearing my czsp01 and my sigp938 right now. Jeans, under shirt, short sleeve fitted button up.

S&W M&P Shield

Best thing you can do OP is go to the gun shop and fondle a few and see what feels good in your hands? What trigger feels good?

If you can see if a friend or two have a gun you can shoot

I love my Rami. They make a grip extension that goes on a 14rd mag that gives your pinky somewhere to go. I carry a 10rd in the gun and a 14rd as a spare.

Why not?  I have PPQ M2's in 9mm and the trigger pull weight is about 5.5 lbs.  Many other carry guns in that neighborhood.

It's almost exactly the same size as a Glock 19 - which does not fit OP's hand.

My little finger below the magazine doesn't bother me at all.
Glock 27 and Walther PPS 40.

My hand hangs off the edge of an HK P2000 just enough that I pinch it during a reload.  To keep that from happening, I carry a P30 magazine for my reload as it is slightly longer.

The P30 and the VP9 have a slightly longer grip but still conceal well.  I carry appendix so I prefer a hammer fired gun for safety reasons so the P2000 or the P30 get carried.  The VP9 shoots so well with the sweet trigger though.

If I need to go slim, I carry a Kahr K9.  Grip is way shorter but I like how slim it is and practice with it often.

Glock 30S & Ruger LCP

These are my two main CC pistols. The LCP can be carried in basically any clothing, any time, anywhere, period. The Glock 30S can be carried anywhere you can wear casual cloths and aren't restricted by a uniform, suite etc. Though a tailored suite could account for it...

You must be 7'6" tall and 300 lbs if your pinky finger hangs off a G19

Here's the problem.

Anything big enough to accommodate your oversized nose pickers is going to be a pita to conceal.  The hardest part of a gun to conceal is the length of grip.

Hence the G19, G26 and G43 popularity with the ccw crowd.

You can learn.  It might annoy you now, but get a 19 and shoot the shit out of it.  After a while, it won't annoy you anymore and it's not like 9mm has a bunch of recoil.

The other option is get a 17 and really work at dressing around it.....But it's going to be a pita to conceal any full size frame pistol because the grip is so long.

exactly my experience.  I carried a S&W 642, originally.  That proved pretty bulky, and I went without more than 50%.  Now I carry my Glock 42 daily.

Your pinky doesn't fit on a G19?  Just how big are your hands?

I don't own one, but the HK45 compact is pretty sweet.

My thought also. G19 grip is quite large.

I did not mean to knock the gun...It is a fantastic firearm IMO.

The lack of accessories such as mags and holsters is why I say the PPQ is not worthy.

The PPQ is one of the best kept secret's on the range.

Well I also have PPQ M2s but in 9mm and Glock 19s, and I carry the Glock.  PPQ is great but I also have a 26 and 29, I can carry between the 3 and they all feel similar.

You can get everything you need for a PPQ, of course the selection is more limited.
