have anyone here ever played Fallout 2? Remember the Advanced Power Armor? Now if only they'll add a jetpack, lol.

Yeah, that would be nice.  Plus some radar and a fire control computer to assist you in target aquisition for your Vindicator caseless minigun, Turbo Plasma Rifle, and Gauss Rifle.

Anyhow, I guess I'll find a copy and re-read it to see what all this buzz is really about.

It's a great story, lots of neat SF stuff in it, controversial ideas and such, but also a masterpiece of writing.

He doesn't start at the beginning with a high school kid, or at the end and tell it all in flash back. He starts in the middle, with a capsule drop, and within a few moments, BOOM! you're in a war zone. The first chapter ends with him recovering one of his wounded men. It ends with "He died on the way up", and this is YOUR man that just bit the big kishko. STILL gives me chills, and I've read it a dozen times.

When I was at the San Antonio WorldCon a few years ago (1997?), the director (producer?), I believe it was, was saying "Sure we left out the MI suits, but its a great film, give it a chance."  I had hopes he'd be lynched on the spot, I could see he had NO idea what the story was about. Wretch. Retch.

Starship Troopers was one the the first Sci Fi books that made an impression on me.  Excellent book.

But you are all thinking inside the box.  The evolution of this technology will result in unmanned drones, Robots.

The airforce is already going that way.  The politics of low or zero casualty war is too attractive for our government to ignore.

I almost agree with you, BoR...  but even with our new fascination with the potential of 'zero casualty' warfare, I still think that troops on the ground are the only way to handle battle conditions.

What I mean is that unmanned vehicles, drones, robots, etc. will be good at assault, blowing things up and killing enemy vehicles and personnel, but have little capacity for dynamic tactical situations.
