BMI is a measure using ht and wt. As a point of reference, someone with a BMI of 27 is approximately 20 percent overweight. Athletes, as an example distance runners, often have a very low BMI. Two people can have the same BMI, but a different percent body fat. A bodybuilder with a large muscle mass and a low percent body fat may have the same BMI as a person who has more body fat because BMI is calculated using weight and height only.

Quoted: Based solely on height and weight - you would be considered overweight if BMI is the sole indicating factor. TT [coffee] View Quote That makes it pointless. I'm currently out of shape (working to rectify that) and it says my BMI is 23.7. Several years ago, when I was seriously exercising, I had a six pack & very low fat but I weighed 20 lbs more than I do now (muscle is heavy) and supposedly had a BMI of 26.5, meaning I was overweight. Thats just silly. |
