No, the people who got that answer and DIDN'T POST IT do.

Screw that.  The people who got the right answer are smart enough to know that if you're reading the second page, you either already have the answer, or never will.

That's why we make the big bucks.

Oh, you mean that bit about not posting your answer? See, that's what they call one of those "rules that are made to be broken."

girls = 7 legs = 14
big cats = 343 legs = 1372
little cats = 2401 legs = 9604

Answer =
legs = 10990
legs + bus driver = 10992
legs / only human = 14
legs / only human + bus driver = 16

ETA: (7 x 2) + ((7 x 7) x 7) x 4) + (((7 x 7) x 7) x 7) x 4) = total legs {where (girls legs) + (big cats legs) + (little cats legs)}

What about the legs on the bus seats?

The question neither states there is a driver, nor does it state how many seats the bus has. The only information we have is how many girls, how many backpacks, how many big cats, and how many little cats. And we know how many legs girls and cats have simply by definition.

 AKA not following directions.

For each backpack there are 7 cats plus 49 small cats, for a total of 8x7, or 56.  There are 49 backpacks, so there are 56 x 49 cats, or 2744 cats.  2744 x 4 = 10976 cat legs.  10976 + 14 girl legs = 10990.

It's 2:00 am here, but it should be after 5:30 in the US.

Assuming each girl has 2 legs AND each cat has 4 legs, AND that each girl brought all 7 backpacks with them, AND there is no bus driver, I have the answer.

+1 but I used a calculator. I'm pretty sure I could of done it with just pen and paper though.

ETA: Got it. Take that ya damn 5th graders!

Initially I tried doing this in my head. I will not say whether or not it caused a nose bleed and a slight ringing in my ears.

So, I had to open up word so I could keep track of everything (the desk has recently been cleaned off and there is no pen here) of what I was doing.

Still (possibly) in a state of mild shock from the nose bleed and ringing in the ears that may or may not have happened, I used the calculator to do the actual math.

This took place (except the hemmorhage and/or tinitis that may or may not have occured at all) before reading anyone elses answers.

I believe I have the correct answer, and it matches other folks that I also believe (after having finished and read further) to have the correct answer.

Another vote for 10990.  I used notepad and calc.exe, I hope that wasn't cheating.

Just FYI, Google his question and you can get the correct answer verified: 10990, as we've been saying.

9618.  9620 if there's a bus driver.
