Yeah I saw a woman on a flea market site asking how to get her dog registered as an emotional support dog so she could force her way into nice rentals that don't allow pets. And the people there were encouraging and helping her. So glad I'm not a landlord.

We are currently training a GSD puppy (8 months) to be an autism service dog for my daughter. That means actual training, not just buying a stupid vest on eBay. The training school gave us a temporary vest, but we rarely use it so far.
Dog is well behaved, but not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but we are working on it. That's why she is in training. Had the dog only about 1 1/2 months, already she knows more than 15 commands. Some are to build her up for specific tasks for our daughter, and specific tasks for us. She has been taught to find me, my wife and/or my son if our daughter somehow gets separated from us, but has the dog. She also has been taught to find our daughter if she gets lost, but doesn't have the dog. That's actually her favorite "game". Even though we can legally bring her everywhere, we currently don't. We are working her up slowly so that she learns and also isn't disruptive to others in public. The people that just purchase a vest and claim the dog as a service dog piss me off. |

My work donates food to a local service dog group that trains service dogs for vets with PTSD. It is a shame how easy it is to exploit the system. Everyone at the local grocery store knows my dogs aren't service animals, but still let me bring them in, because if I'm bringing the dogs in, I'm out for a walk, and out of cigarettes, and in this neighborhood, fuck no I ain't tying them up outside. Always use the liquor store checkout to avoid people with food. ETA: I did get a girl with a "service parakeet" kicked out of the same store this weekend. She had claimed it was a service animal. I told the manager to pull out his phone and google ADA requirements for service animals. Since birds aren't protected, she was told to leave the bird outside, or leave with the bird. |
