Anyone that has had a NICU baby knows the alarms I am talking about. Funny how we get used to ignoring them after awhile.

oh yes I do, I can still hear them in my head....

Glad to hear things are going well, they'll only get better too

Been there, done that.  Definately no fun.  Thoughts and prayers coming your way.  Keep reminding yourself that in no time flat he'll be eating everything in sight.  Your wallet will wish that he would take a break.

2wP and my son is in NICU, born 5 weeks premature by emergency c-section. He is stable but could use some positive vibes sent his way if anyone could spare them.
He's got his daddy's eyes.

Is that 2WP, the same as 2WhiskeyP?

What does his wife think of this?

Yeah he's doing well. Still takes about 75% of his feedings through the feeding tube but at least he shows interest in the bottle every now and then. And he doesn't alarm as much as he used to.

Couple of NICU funnies - the other day he was alarming left and right - his heart rate kept dropping to below 100 but we kept looking at him and he was just laying there looking at us. No nurses were coming in either, we were really confused. Finally I took a closer look at the monitor - it wasn't his info! someone had brought up the remote info for another room and forgot to switch over to Samuel's info when they were done. The other one was that the dr came in to give us an update on his progress. About half way through the update it dawned on me it wasn't my kid he was talking about. We were relieved to know that the baby in the next room should have its sleep apnea resolved in the next couple of weeks and that he is doing great for 6 weeks early. Hey, I figure if Samuel were not doing well they would make more of an effort to make sure they updated us about the right baby.

Glad he's doing well.  Although I think I would have the opposite reaction to mistakes in NICU.  I would be worried he was not receiving proper care.

My twin granddaughters were in NICU for 2 months and I never got used to those monitors there or when she came home.

I tend to trust his nurses' updates more than the pedi's - the nurses are with him 24/7 which is why  could laugh off the pedi's mistake.
Yeah the NICU nurses assume that my twins were in NICU because they were also 35 weekers but nope, they never were, though it is common for twins. Glad to hear your granddaughters are out of there and where they belong at home!

Thanks all! He was doing better then he just sort of plunked out and gave up. He quit eating entirely for about 2 days and now its like we are back to step 1. Just more proof that babies stick to their own schedule and nothing we or dr's can do to change that! He is going on his third week in NICU...it seems like forever!

Well crap...they brought in a feeding specialist who recommended that if he does not pick up on his eating "soon" that he be taken to children's hospital for testing. However they couldn't tell me what time frame they are considering as "soon". Weeks? days?
Seriously...one would think any animal would have a natural instinct to eat. Apparently not.

hang in there Ladybug.  I'm sure its frustrating.  Take a deep breath in and let it all out and start tackling the next problem.  No use wearing yourself out over the unknown.  Please give Little Sammy a kiss [even if its just a blown kiss] for me.  You all are in my prayers.  Patty

Dealing with doctors can sometimes be so frustrating. You want answers and they can't/won't give them.

Sending prayers that things pick up for you and that your baby can come home soon.

I am now convinced that doctors have a whole course on how not to answer questions while answering a question.

He's still in NICU. Its been 3 weeks. He's eating a little better but making progress at his own pace. We've seen what seems like a dozen other babies come and go which is very frusterating. But he gained 13 ozs! He is up to 5 lbs 13 oz now! He is the 2nd biggest baby there. Thank you for the continued P&PT. They are appreciated.

My father was born something like three months premature, and he only wieghed 1 pound and 5 ounces, and this was in August 1946.  The doctors told my grandmother that there was no way he was going to survive longer than a few days and to prepare for the loss.  60 years later, my father is still going strong.

Sounds like your baby is doing a little bit better.  It might take some time, but he'll be all right.

Just got an email from a good friend yesterday. Their second son was delivered at 30 weeks, 3-27. His  wife had been in the hospital since 25 1/2 weeks. He's 3 1/2 lbs., 16 inches. Just got taken of the respirator, breathing on his own.

The pictures they sent got me all choked up. I though of you when I saw them. I'll be praying for both little ones!
