I have interviewed people in IN and OUT of custody settings. In any of those scenarios, lying to me about the day of the week, the color of the sky, etc. is not a violation. It has to be pertinent to the crime being investigated.
And of course I am referring to state statutes here in my state. It is the same for most states whose statutes I am aware of. I can't speak for the Feds.
