Huge lines reported since 6am. Some people are saying that they have never seen such a turnout.

I remember pissing my dad off when I was in the car with him...the radio came on saying "Hugo Chavez accuses the CIA of giving him cancer".

I pause and say "I SURE AS FUCK HOPE SO!"

Jimmy Carter?

Funny you should mention Jimmy Carter.
In 2004, VE held a recall referendum to kick out Chavez... Chavez stayed 58% to 42%, BUT widespread election fraud was alleged by multiple sources. In polling centers using manual voting, Chavez was winning by over 70%, totally inconsistant with the automated results.

Old sack of shit Carter was in VE during the recall election. According to English Wikipedia:

The day before the polling, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter expressed confidence that the vote would proceed in a calm and orderly fashion. Carter commented that, "I might project results that will be much more satisfactory than they were in 2000 in Florida".
...
Carter called on all Venezuelans to "accept the results and work together for the future".[43] The Carter Center "concluded the results were accurate."

I'm having fun razzing my super-duper Lefty friend over this.

I have no doubt Chavez is going to cook the books and stay in power, but the very thought that the "people" or the "workers" of the country may have almost booted him is enough to make his pee-pee shrivel.

He's a full-blown Leftist activist, well connected to Socialist and Communist movements in several countries.  I've got pics of him somewhere with an FAL when he was with the Maoist rebels in Nepal.  He'll have a breakdown if Chavez loses.

I'm sure that is entirely accurate.  No funny business here.  Nope.  Socialist revolutionary decisively wins after 12 years of raping the country.  Perfectly legitimate.

The only way a Socialist government can function is with vast mineral wealth to sustain the machine.  You can't touch Venezuela in terms of natural resources.

So the question remains... why are they a fucking shithole?

How can so many people actually support Chavez?  He has billions of dollars at his disposal from the nationalized oil company, yet he can't even make his much-touted social programs a reality.  How do people not question that?

I lived in VE, from my point of view:

In the past it was rich landowners vs the poor underclass.

Now it is rich capitalist pig business owners and people who work for a living vs everyone else who sucks chavez's cancerous teat.

Somewhere I have video of hundreds of people "slash and burning" land next to a Toyota dealership. Chavez allows "his people" to take over and develop any unused land for purposes of bettering the Bolivarian Socialist State of Chavezlandia.

Pray for cancer, pray for lead, pray for anything but him being in power 6 more years.

The fix went in.  No doubt about it.

But hopefully the cancer will bring him to an agonizing death before very long.
