A few years ago there were just a few guys doing it, but now its really taken off.

As a child of the '80s I feel kind of vindicated that all my favorite stuff is becoming popular again all of the sudden.

We're vindicated because the Baby Boomers are dying off now. We've come of age and now the Good Old Days were Synthwave, Top Gun, Hair/Heavy Metal, Big Tits in Leg Warmers with Big Hair, and Killing Commies.

I love it!

Right now listening to Debbie Deb, DJ Laz, L'trimm, VHS Dreams, Lazerhawks, and Tangerine Dreams on mix while remodeling my house with a Fixed Carry A2 Carry Handle AR within reach.

No one has posted any GosT yet? For shame, dudes, for shame.

What's really funny about this whole movement to me is that a lot of it started from dudes in the metal underground. One of the bigger synthwave labels is also an extreme metal label - Blood Music.

If you ask me it started with the 8 bit sound stuff and it eventually got away from them and now we have retro synth.  Which is fine.  They'll have a bit of fun with it and it will come back around again in 20 years in some form.

Funny you bring this up. For some reason I have been on an 80's kick today. My morning started when I woke up at 3:00AM, realized I wasn't going to fall back asleep, and listened to Toto-Africa on my phone. It's been 80's all day since.

Not bad, but it's as if we've stepped so far back in time that the techno music will pique, again, with the songs/tunes just like the best era - which seemed to be 2004 to 2007.

I, and many others, never understood why it went away from that.  Best guess was: severe lack of talent.  That's the only thing that could explain the last 10 years of synth-based music.

Street cred given.

OP's music is just a re-hash of the precursors to this.  And this eventually built to what we had in the early 2000's.

Incredible it all has to go around the circle once again to get to what's good.

Know what's weird?

During a recent car/cruising/80's thread here, I was trying to find pictures online of what the 80's were like in Northern California.  Pictures of us kids cruising, the parking lot scene, the arcades, etc.

They're just not out there.  We never took pictures, pictures weren't a "thing" like it is today.

Yeah pictures from that era aren't as common as people tend to think they are, at least not on the net. We're used to everyone carrying cameras in their pockets and taking pictures of everything interesting they see every day, and a hell of a lot of things that aren't interesting. Back in the '80s if you wanted to take a picture you had to have a camera, then you had to get the film developed, and then for that picture to still be around on the internet someone had to scan it at some point and then upload it. It was actually a multi-step thing to get old pics on the net for us to look at now, and many people just didn't take the time to do it.

Plus like you said it wasn't really a "thing" either, in the '80s we used to do a lot of biking, riding skateboards, then hung out and messed around with cars, shot guns, etc. but even when we knew something cool was likely to happen the chances of anyone actually bringing a camera to take pics of it were extremely low. Hell some of the stuff we used to get up to would probably get your ass beat if you whipped out a camera. I do have a couple boxes of pictures from back then, but they never got scanned when I had a scanner because I didn't think anyone would be interested in them enough to scan, and I'm sure that's the case with a lot of people as well. We're just too used to people taking pictures of everything, including their lunch, and that wasn't really done back then. Different technology was part of it, but a different mindset was a bigger one in my opinion.

Anyhow, I've listened to most of the songs posted even though I said I wasn't gonna...time to look for a Bren Ten, damn you all.

My daughter only watches '80s cartoons.

Kind of sad when cartoons that were made jsut to sell toys are better than whatever shit they push on kids today.

Yes, that's the idea of this genre.

Indeed, I was born in '72 so I started the '80s listening to my uncle's Sabbath and Zeppelin 8-tracks, riding a mini-BMX bike and playing with Star Wars toys; ended the '80s going to countless awesome concerts, driving a '69 Firebird and playing with pretty much any chick with big hair and tight stone washed jeans that wanted to be played with.

Not many generations of people in the history of the world got to live through the awesome range of experience that kids my age did. Hell, some of my friends have kids who are still in HS and when we talk about what it was like when we were in HS they don't believe us, yes we went out a lot, yes we did stupid shit a lot, and yes we actually had to actually talk to people. They're damn near shut-ins by choice and can't comprehend something as simple as randomly saying,"Fuck it, let's go do something we'll still be talking about in 30 years..."

ETA: For example, several of us actually skipped out of school to see Ferris Bueller's Day off, because it just seemed like the right thing to do. Tell any of my friends' kids that and they do this:

That's a very good point. We're probably the last to get to experience that too. I was still a kid in the early 90s and it wasn't too different. By the time that decade was over it had gone to shit.
