Used to be a McDonalds at the entrance to town.  Owner closed it due to lack of good help.   Still have a Subway and Burger King.

When I think of McDonalds, I think of a kinda sad story a girl I knew in college told me about her childhood. She grew up homeless with her Mother. She never knew her Father. They slept in shelters, in cars and more often than not on park benches or anyplace else they could find. They ate handouts of food from churches and shelters but also from restaurant dumpsters. One day she remembers her mother and some man took her to a McDonalds and she was told she could order whatever she wanted. This was like X-mas to this little girl of 9 or 10 years old. She ate it while sitting up against the man's car in the parking lot while her mother and the man were inside the car. She never saw the man after that day. It wasn't until a few years later that she figured out what was happening inside the car and it connected a few other memories from her childhood as well. It was a sad story but not particularly tragic. Her mother never let anyone touch her daughter and she hung onto to her sexual innocence for probably a bit longer than other girls her age. Still, when I think of that little girl, eating a McDonalds hamburger while mom pays for it by giving BJ/HJ, whatever, I just feel sad.

Typical GD response" What the hell are you doing in McD's? I wouldn't eat there if it was the last place on earth. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes"

The pot needles are a lot stronger than they were in my day.
Lots of crazy people walking around, and they all go to McDonalds

I was in a McDonald's last week on the north side of Detroit, they had an electronic lock on the bathroom door.  You had to go to the counter, ask to use the restroom, they watched you walk to the BR door, then they unlocked it

I am sitting
In the morning
At the diner
On the corner

I am waiting
At the counter
For the man
To pour the coffee

And he fills it
Only halfway
And before
I even argue

He is looking
Out the window
At somebody
Coming in

"It is always
Nice to see you"
Says the man
Behind the counter

To the woman
Who has come in
She is shaking
Her umbrella

And I look
The other way
As they are kissing
Their hellos

I'm pretending
Not to see them
And Instead
I pour the milk

I open
Up the paper
There's a story
Of an actor

Who had died
While he was drinking
He was no one
I had heard of

And I'm turning
To the horoscope
And looking
For the funnies

When I'm feeling
Someone watching me
And so
I raise my head

There's a woman
On the outside
Looking inside
Does she see me?

No she does not
Really see me
Cause she sees
Her own reflection

And I'm trying
Not to notice
That she's hitching
Up her skirt

And while she's
Straightening her stockings
Her hair
Is getting wet

Oh, this rain
It will continue
Through the morning
As I'm listening

To the bells
Of the cathedral
I am thinking
Of your voice

And of the midnight picnic
Once upon a time
Before the rain began

I finish up my coffee
It's time to catch the train

Here is my best fast-food lunch story, which is typical of all of them for the most part (because I don't go to McDonald's):

So there I was, hungry, around lunch time. It was raining. Decided to go to Chick-fil-a. Two employees with umbrellas were escorting people to and from their vehicles so they would stay dry. There was a decent sized line inside. After about 3 minutes of waiting it was my turn. As I go to place an order the guy behind me says, "I got his" and points at me (I'm in uniform). Before I can even get done thanking him after placing my order, the food is ready, and it's hot. And what I ordered. I sat down to eat at a clean table. A few minutes later an employee asks me if I need a refill on my drink or any sauces. When I go to leave one of the umbrella employees asks if I would like him to walk with me to my car.

Sadly no bums, hookers, techno ravers, or weird old people.

Welcome to the world of normalizing drug use and poor mental health services.

Most of these folks are just a few chemical doses away from zombies........flesh eating zombies.

Always be aware, always have a weapon.

Yep.  That's the real life of poor children.  Born of poor decisions and kept poor by even more poor decision making.  And scarred all the way to the bone from the decisions of the parents they're supposed to trust.  They grow up in a world where things like mom blowing a guy in a McDonalds parking lot are just normal everyday life.  How some of them survive it and get beyond those ways is just beyond me.  I see it every day.

We had a guy standing out in front of our most economically diverse McDonalds begging for change.  The manager came out and offered to help him fill out a job application.  The guy moved a block down the street.

Around these parts McDonalds is kind of a prestigious establishment that the welfare set only gets to visit on the first of the month.  What a treat for the kids!  I avoid the place like the plague.  We have one locally that gets hit with the overwhelming bulk of them and it's every bit as vile and disgusting as one would expect of a bunch of kids being raised by wolves.  Then the "family" hops in the car and if it starts they all ride to WalMart.

One of our local soccer moms posted on Facebook today about finding needles on the ground and junkies zonked out on the playground equipment at a city park near where I live.  What was she expecting?  We make the living too easy on people who have no decision making skills whatsoever.  Public assistance, free day care (Head Start Schools), needle exchanges, Narcan, courts that tell you not to cite on "minor" infractions like equipment or traffic violations... I just don't see where that's doing the poor schmucks who work for a living any good at all.

I worked mental health back in the early 90's. The budgets were being cut drastically by the time I moved on in 93. I can imagine how horrible it is now.
