The gun grabber will come up with all sorts of excuses as to why they aren't comparable. Then you'll spend more time defending the comparison than you spend defending gun rights.
It's better to look at the actual gun numbers, imo. Take 2013 for example (not exact, these are from memory, but roughly in the ballpark). 30,000 ish total gun deaths. About 2/3 suicides. A thousand or so lawful deaths. A few hundred accidents. 8500 or so murders, the vast majority committed by felons against felons in gang related crimes. Maybe 2 or 3 thousand murders total if you count random people murdering others for reasons, innocent bystanders to gang violence, or whatever else you commonly think of when you think murder.
All that, in a nation of 330 million or so people with more than 400 million guns in circulation? It's fucking nothing.
