Fuck, still can't search GD. Google doesn't cache the stuff I need 80% of the time. ETA: I'm looking for a thread that was posted in GD past few weeks where a member had a how-to on making a soda can alcohol stove. Anyone know of what I speak? TIA. $2.00 a month |

Quoted: Weird. I searched something today and found 5-6 results with the old search. With the new one I find ZERO. EDIT: Don't try looking for a certain guns in certain calibers. .223 and 5.56 come up as Invalid Keyword [ 9 ]. Keyword must be 3 characters or more in length. Invalid Keyword [ 9 ]. Keyword was identified as a 'noise word' and may not be used in a search. Also trying to search for M&P 9 resulted in the same thing. I have an update to improve searches for all keywords, although I started with the 7.62 issue. Basically, when you search for a keyword like 7.62, it will return results where 7.62 is a complete word only. With the new wild card addition (I'll update it tomorrow) the search will return partial results such as 7.62x39 and so on. Again this will impact all searches as you can find variations of words (partials) such as "test*" will return tests, tester, testing, etc. Wild card additions will only be available for non-phrase searches. It is possible to search for a single word in the any/all searches, such as 7.62* or similar. Your search for .223 and 5.56 should be ok, but the M&P 9 will result in an invalid search because of the "9" by itself. (The exception is a phrase search such as "M&P 9" which will find that exact phrase. I'll get this update on the site later in the morning, I just need to finish up some testing on results. |

It works great!
Thank you for this place and all you do! I want to buy your family a beer one day. |

I LOVE how it now starts its search in the forum you are in, and doesn't start in the parent forum.
That part INFURIATED me. |

That killed the value of the search function.
5) Forum/Community Filter With all this power, something had to be sacrificed, so we removed the "search all" option. Select a community or forum to search. cross posted to the Team thread too |

Now, if we can get search parameters saved in a cookie so you can have complex searches of EE. Give a tiered arrangement on the # of saved searches per the membership level. Would make EE even more addicting.

The more info you feed me, the better. |

Tried it for the first time today. Initial impression: I like this format better than the old one. Thanks.

That is awesome.
I searched for "fuck off" in post body, in General Community over the past week, and got two pages! |

I LOVE that you can review the search results by post. That is awesome.
You've done a great thing there GB. |

Yeah, but can I upload pics right from my computer to the site without using something like photo bucket?

So far, I don't like it at all.
One thing is you can search only 30 days, instead of 3 months. Also, it wants to give you suggestions for your search, which I don't need nor do I appreciate. |

I've lost count how many times I've explained this... BUT, look at the date filter... select "AND OLDER" and there you go, no more limit at all. The suggestions comment I don't understand. Are you talking about the username auto-complete? That was a request and isn't used. Just start typing a name, after the 3rd letter it gives you all the usernames matching that. The more you type, the more it narrows. Select a name from the list or just keep typing and ignore it. It's there as a bonus to HELP make it easier, nothing more. |

I was typing in a username and it kept trying to complete it before I could finish. Okay, see about the "and older". |

Ya that box is only to help you narrow down the user or speed it up. It doesn't force it's value on the search, if you want to utilize it, just click on the menu and pick the name you were looking for. It's also in the IM tool if you hadn't noticed.

Is my membership expired or why is there a time limit on my searches? It sucks that you can't search all the forums now and I'm doing 4 or 5 searches just to find what I'm looking for. Why can't I search users as post authors and reply authors? The search features on this site was one of the best and now it's more complicated but has less ability than before.
Also, why is that a search for "M&P" doesn't come up with any results? |

Looks like an improvement.
Thank you. I use the search quite often. |

This is a GREAT feature!
All we need now is the 'reply to locked posts' option and ARFcom will finally be complete! |

I admit I was too dumb to figure this out at first too. Perhaps if you used radio buttons for "And Newer" and "And Older" instead of a drop down menu. Then it would be right there to see. The search page itself is much "busier" than the old one, and I think a lot of us just missed that you could drop down and make that choice. |
|
How do I search in all communities? I don't see it listed.
Edit: Ok I just found out you cant. That sucks. Why would you remove that feature? |

When is full regular expression functionality going to be included?

Also, why is that a search for "M&P" doesn't come up with any results? The same reason you can't search for S&W. By the way I went into the handgun forum and saw a thread titled "Ed Brown Cobra" and I entered it into the search for the past 2 weeks and it came up with nothing |
|
If you find anomalies, for example missing results or incorrect results, let me know.
I checked on the "Ed Brown Cobra" and could not find the thread with the new or old search in the Handgun area. Are you sure it was in the handgun section? |

Ok 1 full week of the search and performance has been better than expected across the board. Here's the issues I'll be working on...
1) Return of SEARCH ALL Yes it's true. I have mentioned several times that if site performance and resources are not negatively impacted, this would be returning. I had confidence it would return in one manner or another, but we're way ahead of where I thought we would be, so I'll be pushing up testing for this and then releasing it. I can't promise how long it will be, it may be a couple days, or maybe a couple weeks. I will try my best to make sure the entire expanded search is available for "search all." (In other words, no restrictions.) 2) "&" search FIX The issue with S&W or M&P searching is due to the "&" being a word break character. I'll need to finalize a parser to correct the issue. It's an easy fix, but a time consuming one. Don't expect this fix as quickly as search all, but it will be addressed. There are a few other things on the table including saving custom searches to a favorites list, etc. which will be looked at. Some of those items may be completed now or they may be pushed off to be completed at a later date. Just wanted to give everyone a head's up on the new search. |

Hey Goatboy, I'm still not happy with being locked out of the Lifer's Forum in the Archive search, my own fault for letting it slip though.

Thread post #100 wants to say that it has frequently and nearly exclusively used the 'search all forums' function when searching.
and does so on all other sites as well |
