I do own a 2015 Durango (shit gas mileage) and a 2015 Nissan Vera Note (around 26 mpg in town) |

You can get a brand new Subaru Cross trek or Legacy for about $2,000 more or an Impreza for about $2,000 less than your budget. Great gas mileage reliable look pretty decent.

I have to add the 2016 Civic to the list. Looks like they did a great job designing it.

Chevy Malibu with the 2.0 turbo... they are great cars for the money,, might be a little more new then your max price, but excellent cars from everything I have heard....A loaded slightly used one should be right in your price range.... not a bad looking car either, 16's look even better... http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii265/AKSNOWRIDER_2008/IMG_0384_zpsa8umn7l0.jpg View Quote I have a car with the same engine- it's pretty quick for a daily driver, but it can get V8 fuel economy if you're heavy on the gas. It also needs premium gas to get the advertised HP/TQ. |

The new Civic looks pretty good. My brother bought a 2015 4 cylinder Accord auto sedan and it's a really nice car. His was about $23k OTD and is pretty well equipped tech wise with cloth seats and aluminum wheels.

Change the color on the website from the ugly orange & it looks like every other SUV. |

VW TDI. I get 37mpg on my 2003 Jetta Wagon and its pretty smooth riding too. It isn't super lame looking and can haul a lot.

Used Detective Caprice. Dad has one. Thing is a stealth bomber. I'd vote used Camry The car was in excellent shape we when the old man took delivery of it. And most of them are actually driven by city inspectors and the like. This one, I think, came from a building inspections department. |

All of your requirements point toward a 4-cyl midsize mainstream sedan. Pick your flavor. You should be able to get any of these within your budget.
Toyota Camry Honda Accord Hyundai Sonata Mazda 6 VW Passat Kia Optima Chevy Malibu Ford Fusion You could go cheap and go for a size smaller (Civic, Corolla, Elantra, Jetta, etc.) but I'd definitely be happier in the bigger car for not much more money. |

If you are semi mechanically inclined the best/newest Camry or diesel VW you can find. Will run forever. View Quote This. So this. The VW TDI's can be had for a steal at the moment due to the black cloud over them involving them cheating the EPA, but that's a plus in my book. You'll get 40-42mpg easily. Timing belt change every 100k. Oil changed every 10k. I love the VW. If you can find an mk6 golf do it, if you're after a jetta try to get a 09-10, those were the last two years of the mk5 (made in germany high quality cars) before vw moved production to mexico for the mk6 jettas. You can find leather nav low mileage examples for 13k. And you can sell it in 3 or 4 years for 10. |

Might not be a popular pick here, but grab yourself a used 2013-15 Chevy Volt. OP may not want to average 127 miles per gallon. So much this....they are getting cheap. PHEVs are unique OP. Try them out before you settle on another ICE only car. At least do a test drive. You will be impressed.... BTW OP the midsize sedan market was just at its peak, the CUV/SUV is replacing it. The market is ultra-competitive right now and there are no wrong options. Just many boring ones. A Volt is fun to drive, it coners very well because of the low center of gravity, plus if you are just commuting you can likely go all-electric on your commute and not need the ICE to kick in. There are so many reasons a PHEV is a better choice, I just wrote a 10 pager about them for college. IM me if you want more info. |

Quoted: Just saw a billboard for the 2016 Malibu. Looks nice. I think I'm going to narrow my search to: Fusion/Taurus Malibu Camry How are the Sonatas? View Quote I've never been a ford fan but after the bailout shit my company pretty much went to ford only and we have around 200 vehicles on the road. I drive a 2011 Ford E250 van with ~108k and I've had no major issues with it. Only had one issue with the steering column something or other that was causing some shaking. Other than that I'm on the second set of tires and brakes, nothing else. There are some Chevy's left that are the same way though but it seems like Ford has their shit together. |

4yrs ago I paid $10K cash for a 2008 Camry with low miles ( 35K at the time )
Private sale - 1 owner ... 4yrs later and its still running like new with zero issues ( 64K miles ) 4cyl and exc gas mileage and near zero maintenance cost ( oil changes - air filters etc ) You just can't beat a Toyota Camry for reliability and cost effective commuting. resale value is quite good also. Probably get $7-8K for that car easily as it sits |

If you are handy (for when cheap DIY repairs might be needed) and want a bit of fun how about an used BMW 3 Series?
If you don't want used take a peak at a new VW Jetta. Now is a good time to buy. They run well, feel well built, nicely equipped, look nice but not priced 'too nice' where you will park at the far end of the Target parking lot. |
