Check out the rest of their out dated equipment.

Not every nation has the money to throw away on changing uniforms and gear every decade. Nor do they need to portray being the worlds superpower with the latest high tech gear

We've got a bunch of international students in the school I am going to.  It's interesting to see that several of them have militaries smaller than the population of many US military bases.  Many countries have re-thought the role of their military, see no immediate threat from their neighbor, and aren't in the mood to project power throughout the world.

Regarding the outdated equipment....I still have the LBE I put together as a private.  While I've moved on to better things, the LBE still works.

Sweden may or may not still be issuing AK4s to the home guard?

We still use them. A new carbine will be fielded around 2020 and will replace both the AK4 and AK5.

We don't know what carbine will be chosen since the trials will start in 2018, but the SCAR, HK416 and G36 are believed to be the top contenders.

G36 won't last long in the winter trials

Price, and everybody knows that German stamped metal is better than Russian stamped metal. Notice that all the countries who could afford it used FALs (except us of course).

Not entirely true. Mexico and Turkey replaced the FAL with the G3 for the most part as did Germany.

As did Sweden. The FAL was issued in small numbers as AK1, an indigenous rifle was tested and designated as AK2 and 3, but eventually the G3 won and was designated as AK4 with almost half a million being made in Sweden.

Most Turkish units who would see any sort of combat have HK33's available to them. In some cases AK47's too. But yeah, G3 is still standard issue.

Hk ceased manufacturing the g3 and hk33 ages ago. Where so they get replacement parts or new rifles? Does Pakistan still have a plant?

MKE is still making them in Turkey.

The G36 is used by a certain unit that changes its name every other year and is also issued to the police. They seem to like it.

Lulz. Yes, I'm sure we're going to standardize back to the 7.62x51 for a standard infantry rifle.

M4's aren't relics, son. M16A2's are relics. Someone will be by shortly to call me "son" and tell me about A1's and M14's.

Seems like the only countries that still use battle rifles are poor ones or countries that don't expect to fight.

I've seen pictures of Iranians in British DCU, both desert and woodland, 3 and 6 color American desert, American woodlands, Olive Drab, ACUs, and carrying every weapon under the sun, from Uzis to CQs to a few M-16s, in addition to AKs and G-3s.

Not the Estonians.

The 5.56 Galil is their standard rifle.

The various G3s, and others are not standard A.
