If it's a boy, don't name him a name that can go both ways...

It sucks when half the people you run into with the same name are the opposite sex.

Skullface the destroyer.

Seriously though.  My wife is 8 weeks pregnant and if we have a boy we will name him Aiden. Not sure on girl names yet.

+1

That is why we picked Luke and Shane.

It'll be 100 years at least before those names go girly.

Oh, you're going to catch shit for that name around here. When I asked the name question, I was assured that names like Ewan or Eamon would scar the kid for life. I can only assume Aiden would have the same result.

(I went with Owen)

Well, kinda hard to say without knowing the gender and your last name (let's face it, even a cool name will sound dorky paired with the wrong last name.
I tend to lean on Gaelic names...both my boys have Gaelic first names...and our last name is Italian .I also like Welsh names

For girls, I liked Taryn, Kerryn and Devon
We only had boys, so...

Devin and Jameson it was.

Boy's names are hard...don't want anything too weird or they'll be fighting all thru school.

My wife and I had also talked about Owen too!  I've heard lately that the Cayden, Caiden, Brayden, etc. names  have been really played out lately.  We are still going to use Aiden because we had picked it out a long time ago (about 5 years ago).

that being said

Ferdinand

Mauser

Bushmaster (for a male this will have special connotation)

anything but Gunner (in TN every fourth kid is named gunner and the parents pride themselves on being so original)

Skullface the Destroyer DOES have a nice ring to it.

Have you considered recycling a name from your grandparent's generation?

My daughter is named Vivien- her namesake is 103 years old (my grandmother- she is lucid and she went to the party when the boys came home from WWI!- she is older than the .30-06, the Titanic, and 99.9% of aviation history).

My youngest daughter (almost 3 mos old) is named after my great-grandmother on my fathers side.  Her name was Belle.  We used it as a middle name.  It hadn't been used by anyone in the family because everyone says she was the meanest woman to ever walk the planet.  I said the heck with ya'll i like the name.

Yes!

If it’s twins you need to name them both Spartacus. Think of it…

“OK which one of you is Spartacus?”

“I’m Spartacus!”

“No! I’m Spartacus!”

That would be so cool.

See! They recognize the genius of it! Imagine and ENTIRE generation of booger-pickers named Spartacus. It'd be worthy of a long, epic movie!

I have 8 year old twins boy (Colton) girl (Jacey) Colton is getting more popular but the downside to original names is that your kids will never be able to find anything with their names on it like plates for their bicycles and crap like that.

I was in the local gunshop the other day and a couple walks in with a toddler.  The husband and wife were looking for a new hunting rifle for the wife.  As the girl toddler is sitting on the counter, one of the female employees is entertaining her so mom and dad can shop.  She asks the parents what the girl's name was, and simultaneously they both said "Remmington."  I shit you not.  I really didn't know what to say.

Dammit is a good name for a boy.

Your last name is the key to picking a good first name. If the whole name doesn't "sing" then it doesn't matter how great the first name is.

Here is even more crap to consider. While I do not have a speech impediment, my first name has always been difficult for me to pronouce. Imagine if you saddle your own child with such a burden. Maybe you should just let them pick out their own names.

Find your roots.

My wife is Spanish; I'm of Irish heritage.

Our daughter is named Belen (spanish for Bethlehem, or more direct--the manger scene)

Our son is named Declan--after the Irish saint that preceeded St. Patrick.

Or, you could name him one of the cutesy "in season" names that folks come up with--but those go out of style real quick and 20 years from now there will be TONS of Chase's, Colts, Hunters, etc.

You have time--give it some thought and make sure the name has meaning. Naming your child after a weapon is silly, IMO
