Not necessarily how the laws of supply and demand work. By pulling himself out of the demand, there will be more weed on the supply side. Being that weed is a recreational product, demand and supply have a unique relationship. Normally, when supply is short, demand increases as does price. When supply is strong, demand drops off and prices drop. With weed and other illegal recreational drugs, when supply is up, price come down, but demand remains high. Often it increases in anticipation of future shortages or stockpiling. |

Maybe the basement leaks and he has a pump hooked up?
Y'all been getting a lot of rain/snow up that way haven't you? |

I know two people who have had a visit from the DEA for the same power consumption issues. They were actually running a business with a lot of computers out of their homes (one was hosting, the other had a bunch of Multiprise machines). They showed the DEA the computers, they said "sorry to bother you", and left. In each case they had a bunch of vans parked outside and a warrant, presumably to haul the plants and so on off. Apparently heavy, heavy power consumption is so unusual that it really doesn't look like anything other than pot farming. EDIT: Each time they had warrants, too. They were pretty up-front about the power use being what caught their interest and the people coming and going from each of the homes was the other thing. They were polite and the dogs were unmolested. They were quite surprised to see the computers. |

we did get alot , I suppose, but when I get home from work tonight around midnight. I am going to listen and see if it's on, if it was running now with all the background noise I wouldn't be able to tell. |
But that flies in the face of everything we have been told since 9/11. We have to be ever vigilant because the ROPers may attack at any time. If he is growing dope, tel him you want half of the profits for keeping quiet. |

Big brother... ...why is this a good thing? Legalize drugs and scrap the DEA, ATF and other state agencies. Put that money and manpower into the FBI and Boarder patrols to stop real problems. Treat addictions to drugs like you do alcoholics. Put the same restrictions on drug use as alcohol (no driving etc). Legalize prostitution while your at it. |

It was just a thought, I know when our basement flooded in the old house, our pump sounded like we had 10 army generators running. (it was really loud. I apologised to my old neighbors and appreciated their candor) no cops showed up. Are the neighbors doing anything else out of the norm? |
No nothing out of the norm at all, nice house , dog , nice kept yard. I noticed this about three weeks ago onenight when I went outside to smoke a cig about 2:00 am |
are you kidding? For every one person this guy sells to. Is one less bag that is bought from somebody else. If say your town had two steady reliable sources. now you have 3, that is putting a dent in the first two dealers business. This is why drug dealers fight for turf. |
So this guy just went from personal use to being a supplier in the chain? |
I guess I just assumed. |

If you can barely hear it, and you only noticed it when you were outside at 2am smoking a cigarette, why bother with it? If there is a noise ordinance in your city/neighborhood (and it bothers you that much) then file a report. Otherwise just live and let live.
Not saying you are one, but I HATE nosy-parker neighbors. |
Well, To me personally, they sound on the up and up. I'd be a good neighbor and pay it no mind. YMMV. |

You think a generator is weird.. At my folks house, every night around 3-4am, someone down the mountain from them fires up a dragster. Idles sometimes, opens it up others. Sounds like a gas burner though, not nitromethane. It's far enough away not to be a real noise issue, but definitely strange. Eeeeeevery day. I always figured it was a real car nut who worked some odd shifts. Never heard it during the day.

Perhaps he has an off-the-grid home w/inverter etc, and the genny powers up automatically to recharge the battery banks?
I'd keep to myself if they seem on the up-and-up, personally. |
So unusual? You just described my house. Add a few big screen TVs, too. |
Where do you get this? IIRC, there just isn't much research on market behavior of marijuana consumers. Not that shortages are all that frequent, anyway. |

"Suspicious power usage at regular intervals" is the reason my friend got a visit from the cops, after he set up his Reef tanks. And by "reef" tanks, I mean a 29gal, 55gal, and 175gal saltwater tank. I guess all those lights and pumps and filters use a lot of power.
He's just growing the dope that Mexicans won't grow.
I can't imagine it being an air compressor. The smart thing to do with one with you're done with it is to turn off the switch. If you develop a leak on the hose or such, it would run all the time, or at least cycle a lot more. When I was a kid in the old neighborhood, we had a neighbor who had a permanent water pump set up in the lower level outside his house. Kinda hard to explain, but it sunk into a concrete floor underneath an overhang. He might have something similar. If it's running during wet weather, that might be what you're hearing. -Scott |

Could be a stand-by generator which does certain tests every night. I believe they should be every week or more but maybe he changed it to every night.

Had a strange situation this summer that relates to the power usage issue. My younger brother had 5 of his friends move in over the summer to just hang out or whatever. They helped with the payments and they each got a room. Life was good. Except no one had any discipline in regards to turning off the lights. Two of the friends were also in roofing and took two or three showers a day. Add in extra electricity used to power the washer/dryer.
The house also went from 2 cars out front to 6 on a daily basis. We had 5 computers running near full time, and two window air conditioners. A lot of electricity and water being used basically. Police patrols kicked into high gear about June. Then on a birthday party June 25, had a patrol stop by on a noise complaint. Got that taken care of, and they asked to search the house, as they had complaints by neighbors that we were running a drug house. Few days later the chief of police stops by and asks to search also. Both the patrol and the chief were sent away with instructions to come back with a search warrant if they felt they needed to search. Not that there was anything illegal here though. |
You should demand to see his electric bill!!! I bet he has one of those Gen that is hooked into his main breakers and runs it to save on his bill!!!
Don't people like that piss you off? Better check also to see if he has one of those old wells that were put in with the compliance for grass watering also(he might be stealing water also)! How about minding your own business!!! Hank had a good song about just this kind of thing!!! What if he gets one of those wind generator type things??? God Forbid!!!!Bob |
So when the SHTF, not only will the pot-growers be the only guys in the neighborhood with power, but they'll also have a judicious supply of doobage to pass around to their less-fortunate neighbors! BTW, in my neighborhood, there is a gas station that uses a pressure washer to clean the parking lot late at night, after the station closes. Only happens about once a week, but the sound it makes could be mistaken for a generator. |

DEA uses planes equipped with FLIR/SLIR/DLIR to look for buildings that are showing red (heat).
Pretty much, atleast the money is going back into the American economy, and they are likely paying thier rent on time. Which is a whole hell of a lot better than it heading into the pockets of far nastier criminals. |

...around here it would be one of many indicators of a meth lab....
Growning pot or cookin up meth. We had a report here awhile back of the same thing, guy was using generators and using large amounts of propane for cooking up his meth.

They should not be able to obtain a warrant because someone uses a lot of electricity. |

While you are nailing this guy don't forget the assholes that have the discourtesy to drive by your house at night, the damn barking dogs, airplanes, helicopters, and the damn trains in the distance.
