That was a good one.

I liked Way of the Gun, the assault on the German 88s in Band of Brothers (or was that SPR? I forget), Equilibrium shootouts against the cops, and Tombstone's OK Corral.

It's been mention by the US cut name of the movie. But, I like the longer Euro cut:

That's not as much of a shootout, as it is an outclassing of 2 morons by 1 expert. Sorta like a kid in his mom's Tercel pulling up to a red light and revving the engine at the Z06 next to him.

All orchestrated by the great Michael Mann.

ETA: While I liked the rest of Open Range I thought the shootout was utter crap. It was like John Woo and Michael bay doing a western.

I love that movie.

Also in "Falling Down", only a few seconds but the impact of that shootout...
I mean the shoot out on the pier at the end.

It's a weak scene. The thug on the right has to stretch his acting abilities to not draw his gun and plug Vince. Keep your eye on him. In real life Vince would be a ventilated man.

I used to think that was an awesome sequence by cruise but after watching it several times it's clear that the thug on the right took about 3 seconds longer on the draw than he needed to, his hand was on his gun before cruise took his first shot.  Maybe the idea was that he got it caught on his pants, but he definitely should've gotten at least one shot off.

IIRC, the concensus was that the thug on the right was carrying his pistol in a manner known as the Mexican carry in the wasteband of his jeans. Illustrating the weak pionts of this carry method, he could not perform a clean draw under duress and was ventilated by Vince.

Not a weak scene, but one done with an eye towrds the typical BG and his weapon handdling skills or lack thereof.

YMMV.

+1.

It assumes the thug has some experience drawing and shooting under duress while the SHTF.  Most thugs (and most of us dare I say) would be out of the fight if we came up against someone who could pull off that scene in the real world.  Vince had basically owned and pre-visualized the scenerio for several seconds while the BG's thought they owned it and couldn't see it going any other way.  Lots to learn from a scene like that.  That several seconds of seeing how it can go is way better than waiting for it to happen.  The bar scene is probably about how it would go given someone like a Vince character set loose amongst the sheep where he probably doesn't find himself too often.

BTW, watched the Fifth Element again last night (thanks hulu.com) and the ballroom shootout is lots of fun.

In the movie clip (and not an animated gif), Tom is shooting thug #2 about 1.5-2 seconds after drawing. He starts on thug #1 at 0:20, puts two into him, then puts THREE shots into thug #2 by 0:22.

IRL, that would be a damned impressive bit of shooting.

It wasn't the three brothers, one of the three had died much earlier in the movie. You're thinking of their father.

As for the scene, I think it's alright, but honestly, I find that entire movie just a little over-rated.
