Not here, I shop at Fry's Food which is owned by Kroger.
Hell, I always use the self checkout and half the time they electronically release it from across the area using their little electronic device. But then, I'm 66 years old with an obvious head of silver/grey hair.... |

Welcome to 5 years ago.
It contains the DOB so the cashier cant fuck it up. |

"Date of birth?"
April 1st, 1865 Or April 1st, 2165. I'm a time traveler. |

Meijer has been doing this shit for a while. I always just ask them to enter the birth date manually and they comply...so far.
This is all just data collection and revenue. All businesses now must harvest data and sell it to be competitive but I'll be damned if I make it easy for them. Honestly, Meijer has been kind of shit for a while and this year we have only been doing about 10% of our shopping that we used to do with them. |

I don't take my license out of my wallet. If they want to scan my ID I'll walk away.

Sucks that black people can’t buy alcohol.
Heard they can’t figure out how to use the internet to find a BMV. |
Lol they’ve been doing this in washington for more than a decade. You must live under a rock. Not that i agree with it. they do it everywhere though
If you haven’t had yours scanned it’s because you’re literally a dinosaur. This is common practice in the US. Even in conservative states.

Bought beer at Kroger two days ago. Didn't even ask for my ID.
Dont leave out the facial recognition. They all use it and share it.
Meh. I don't buy smokes or alcohol, I gave up both and it's been wonderful.

Quoted: this was instituted because doing the basic math to calculate age was too hard for most cashiers, it's not nefarious, people are just really dumb. Quoted: Ummm, they do it at the rinky dink grocery store in Llano for alcohol and tobacco. View Quote Have you seen some of the clerks in Llano? I bet they can’t do the math to determine your age. No seriously, sometimes the stores that have been popped by TABC do that so they can prove the age of everyone who made a purchase. |

They scan ID for beer....but! You don't need ID to vote in many areas! Need ID for a bank account, to fly, yea...I know.

Isn't that racist?
I was told that black and brown people can't afford ID's. |

Quoted: If they are like other retailers, their data protection policies are probably pretty tight, with overlapping administrative and technical controls to prevent the misuse, unauthorized access, and leakage of sensitive customer data. j/k, of course. Their policies are likely abysmal, like so many retailers. View Quote You had me at first. |

One of the new employees at the City Market (Little Krogers) did that to mine
the other day. I was like..... I don't really care but I'd never had that done before or since. |

What sacred info is on your DL that the DMV doesn’t already sell?
Not so far in VA or NC. Then again, hard liquor is sold in .gov stores only.
I get id’d for alcohol, never been scanned. I know it parts of SC you can’t buy tobacco without doing it though…

Quoted: What sacred info is on your DL that the DMV doesn’t already sell? View Quote The type and quantity of alcoholic beverages I purchase. Imagine the embarrassment should I be arrested for "insurrection" in Olympia and it came out that I bought peanut butter whiskey? I wonder if reefer stores scan DL's? |

Quoted: I have never had that happen in Florida. Ever. View Quote I have..... all the Circle-K's around here started swiping DL's for tobacco and booze I started handing them my passport .....and they were forced to manually enter my birthdate .....which they said they couldn't do. That "policy" quietly went away |
Neer been asked to scan it.
My response, "You can look at the date and that will suffice, or you can shove your alcohol up your ass!" But you are not scanning in my ID into some database that will get hacked later down the line. |
If they swipe every card regardless of age then they have records of age verification compliance.
If I had a place that sold liquor or cigarettes and there were age laws I’d do this too. Why jeopardize your business on a lazy or criminal employee. |
Quoted: I don't take my license out of my wallet. If they want to scan my ID I'll walk away. View Quote Same for me. I've never been asked to scan my ID for alcohol but Target wanted to scan it when I was buying an R-rated DVD one time. I declined and left the movie for them to restock, told them they had not been a good steward of customer info and I wasn't going to give them any more to lose. |
I had it happen to me in Vegas at a liquor store within walking distance from the Flamingo.
This way if there's a fight or something this it what I was told. |
It would be a shame if you went through the checkout line with a full basket of groceries, mostly perishable. At the very end after everything else is scanned, pull out a six pack of something or other from the bottom basket rack. Then refuse to have them scan your ID. If they continue to demand it tell them never mind, keep your stuff. Walk out whistling.
Never had that happen here in TX at Kroger. |
It would only retain your date of birth, and even that can be disabled.
It potentially takes different setups for each state, and some states have laws that come into play, so you might not see it for the same retailers in different states. |

No seriously, sometimes the stores that have been popped by TABC do that so they can prove the age of everyone who made a purchase. View Quote Yep, keeps the state Alcohol Board out of their business for the most part concerning "of age" testing. The kid caught a fine for selling to an underage person at the restaurant she worked at. It was someone that had routinely purchased there. The owner new it and condoned it. The buyer had got caught somewhere else. The state used that individual too nail several local establishments/owners/servers. One of the local bars around here had a bar code reader for your DL when entering. Green got you in the door, Red you were turned away. A good friend got turned away before midnight. Walked back in the door just after midnight and like magic, he became "legal". |

I just by my booze on base at the Class VI store. I flash my retired ID card adn they say have a nice day. But, I am 67 and look it.
