I'll just add the hunter's prayer here:

Dear (insert your favorite deity here)

If I have a hit, let it be a clean hit. If I have a miss, let it be a clean miss. Let no creatures suffer.

Eat what you kill.

Mine shoots great, I picked it up new about 4 or 5 years ago for 650, I love the simplicity of it, gets used more than my pimped out guns. I have been looking at an ACOG for it

Nice...have had mine for 9 years now.  Shoots everything I run through it wonderfully.

I got lucky with the ACOG.  Was an order that a guy didn't pick up, gun guy just wanted it gone.  I didn't really want a donut reticle but love it now.

Already done. I know where to shoot, etc. What I don't have is land to hunt on, appropriate camouflage, etc etc. I also don't have anybody to go with. As much as I think it would be extremely relaxing, it ain't exactly smart to wander out into somebody else's woods by yourself. Even if you have permission to hunt there.

I also moved to Ohio, thanks for the reminder to update my location.

There's thousands of acres of public hunting land in Ohio, and plenty of stores in which to buy camo.  All it takes is time and money.

What part of the state are you in?

I don't even wear camo for deer, hog or squirrel.

Why isn't it smart to go in the woods alone?  Just go prepared and take GPS, youll be good.

Camo, preferably with a little blood spatter on it, is a must for after hunt grocery shopping at Whole Foods.

Seriously though, always leave an itinerary with someone when you hit the woods alone - hunting, camping or hiking.

Congratulations MotorMouth!

J-Pat, I hunt the largest wilderness area in the lower 48 by myself, I actually prefer it that way. Just use common sense. Now get out there and start hunting, every year you delay you will regret one day.

It is the south - some local politician will hold a dove shoot. The politician will have a farmer delay harvest until a couple days before season opening, they will cater lunch (likely bbq), and provide everyone with a good dove hunt in order to get votes. In Tennessee the season starts at 12 noon so the politician will make a speech around 10 or 11 am then everyone will eat and head out to pick a spot for the hunt.

Camo, preferably with a little blood spatter on it, is a must for after hunt grocery shopping at Whole Foods.

Seriously though, always leave an itinerary with someone when you hit the woods alone - hunting, camping or hiking.

I don't even wear camo for deer, hog or squirrel.

Why isn't it smart to go in the woods alone?  Just go prepared and take GPS, youll be good.

I prefer blood/dirt stained cargo pants, always good for some looks.

Thanks to everyone that's given me dove hunting advice, much appreciated.

My youngest is always talking about a "bear hunt". I've never hunted bear... Wouldn't even know where to start but one day, just for him, I think I might.

It's easy. Even a reformed safety violator can do it.

Stiker down and off safe.
