I grew up in Washington, and have a hard time not thinking of Canadian money like that anymore.

As of today, one Canadian dollar = $0.91 US
And they have NO DEBT, lots of oil & an educated (& still comparatively homogenous) poplulace.

I think they were like $320 with a $50 rebate, there was a thread on it.

Edit: It was an ATI for $299

Not saying you're lying but I paid $330 NIB in 2003. I haven't ever seen them that low.

Apples and Oranges.

The Norincos (at least back in the day) were among the sturdiest of frames and slides. Great base guns...or, if you wanted, they ran just fine stock.

Bought my Norinco .45 several years ago for $239 at a gun show, and a few years later I sold it at another gun show for $550.

I liked that gun, but I liked the $311 profit even better.

I have one I bought used for $250 quite a long time ago. Added a Beaverton grip safety and new sights. When I parkerized it, it came out black as coal.
The slide was hard to machine for the sights. Had to use carbide cutters.

Ppffttt...
Use to buy them here for $245
Cut my 1911 gunsmithing teeth on Norincos
Still use one as my IDPA gun

I would definitely buy a Norinco .45 1911 for 280.00 if anything for a leave at hunting camp pistol or something, from what I've heard they're actually pretty decent.

I'm sure your Citadel is fine, but you're comparing a cast gun with a gun forged from 5100 (not 4100) chromoly steel. There's a reason that the Norinco 1911s enjoy a cult following.

And just so you know, $279 Canadian in 2014 is the equivalent of $150 Canadian dollars in 1990

That makes my blood boil.  If that price was available, I'd buy a six pack today.

Good idea, ups the chance that one of them works correctly out of the box.

The Norinco 1911s are outstanding.

Are they still made out of that hard ass steel as the first one's were?

Answered.  (yes).

I gots two of them One has been left completely stock, the other was sent to a gunsmith for Novak night sights, extended safety, beaver tail, hammer, ect, ect... Both are great shooting guns. Funny thing is, the internals and the rails of the stock one are ugly as fuck, I mean tooling marks up the ass... Yet it is a damn reliable little gun.
