Actually is quite the opposite. With a lower temp you can't get a good char on the outside, and blood rare on the inside.

I went to their website and watched their video. That thing looks very cool. I was considering a Weber Genesis, but the Lousiana 680 looks much more versatile for my needs. Very impressive.

IM me, I'll see if I can drop ship you one.

There is no reason to ever use propane with this on the market. Just as easy, better product.

ETA: Be advised, the 680 is a monster. It will hold 5-6 20lb briskets.

450 sqin. Large enough for a 20-25lb Turkey. Retail is $879, you can have one for my cost + whatever freight I paid.

Here's mine. 680 sqin.

OP,

So how does all that work? Fill the side thing with pellets, light it off and the heat is blown into the cooking area? Or do you lay the pellets down like wood/ charcoal?

How long from light off to cooking does it take?

The pellets are fed in to the burn pot via an auger. The thermostat controls control the auger speed. A fan is also tied in to the thermostat to accelerate burning.

It's ready to cook time is about the same as a large gas grill.

I also has a "prime" function to recover from door opening.

Fill the hopper with pellets, set the temp, and walk away.

I love my pellet smoker even though it's an entry level one.
As already mentioned, my pellet smoker doesn't get hot enough to sear but it sits right next to my gas grill which does.
So when I need to sear a steak I do the steak on the pellet smoker and when it reaches 111 degrees I toss it on the gas grill for 60 seconds a side - works for me....

Sometimes I'll cook up a can of that canned chicken breast in the microwave (take it out of the can...I won't make that mistake again).  Top it with that Kroger-brand BBQ sauce (its cheap so you can use  A LOT!)

Goddamn its good.  I'll never go back.

Been wanting a pellet grill for a long time. Tending the fire was fun for awhile.

Went to the website.  Looks like a nice setup, especially if you get all the add-on's.   The digital controller with the probe looks like a good option to have.

Have you smoked anything on it yet?
