Excellent thread! In some ways, I am glad that I do not remember the serial number of the Springfield Garand I was issued in the Danish army when I was a recruit - because if I remembered it, I would be obsessed with trying to find it, and would be constantly hassling the CMP and every concievable gun board to try to find it.
