He could be my dog's twin at that age. |

Stuka! Made a sound designed to frieghten those on the ground.

I agree with Wolfman97, that most people would say and think mouser rather than Mauser. They'll be thinking of a cat when they hear the name.
I always liked Rex for male GSD due to a friend's dog. Here's a nice German name for him--Kurt. |

thanks for the pics . i vote for pluto . 688 |

If the little pooch ever gets lost, go to the hot chick down the street and ask, "Have you seen my Koch?" Hmmmmm. I've given myself an idea. MJD |

I think I'm going to stick with Mauser. I just can't get that name out of my head. It was between that and Luger. He's also going to learn all his commands in German as well. I think this will be good as he'll only understand what I'm telling him.

|
Mauser it is. That's my final decision.
Does anyone know where I can get replica German dog tags? I already ordered some US style ones but would like the oval german style. Yeah, I'm going to be compulsive over this dog.... |

Smoke
Shadow Dakota (Black Hills?) Graf Von Spee Heinz (Guderian) Rommel Molders Bruno Panzer Kaiser (Caesar) Bismark |

I had a German Shepherd growing up I named Schultz after Sergeant Schultz. Of those listed so far, I like Stuka. We've been thinking about a Shepherd as our next dog - we'll have to keep that one in mind. |

is it just me or do those German names sound funny for a dog? Give him a good ol AMERICAN name.

Beautiful picture of the dad, but some of the other pics don't show up. If your pup turns out to be half as good-looking as the dad, he will be one gorgeous dog.

Got an update, he's at 33lbs now. Just about 9 weeks. I pick him up Sunday night in Columbus, OH.
Good thing we rented a minivan for the trip. OH, and I'm gonna have to get a new car. I have a 2 door civic right now, might have to start looking for a 4 door accord or suv for this little beast. |
|
looks like my wife's dog, he is the dumbest fucking dog I have ever known. Rocks between his ears.
We called him Rocko. |
|
yep or toto or bark or rodent or fetch |

Looks like he's with Cotton Hill ! |

Trust me when I tell you that the full grown dog will take up the entire back seat of a SUV. An Accord will be a tight fit. He will put on about ten pounds a month for the next few months. You can expect him to reach about 100 pounds at about eight months. Then he will probably stay at that size for a while and start growing again around 14 or 15 months old. He will probably reach about 140 shortly before his third birthday. |

Name the dog Luger. Sounds better than Mauser. Call him lugie
|

weird. I thought it was an original name |

Jesus, then get a parrot and teach it to chant "Jesus is watching you."
No Seriously... Ithink Mauser is a good name, but perhaps the name Marines earned from the Germans in ww1 ... called "teufelhunden" - hounds from hell And when you are in a good mood shorten it to "Toof" pronounced Tooth. |
|
Mauser According to the German wife - Means a good mouse catching cat. |
|
|
Mine was named after the junkyard dog in "Stand By Me" who was trained to "sic balls". There is also a cartoon dog named Chopper. |

|
I queried an actual German and she says he looks like a "Rocco" She also recommends Ajax.
The translation of the word Mauser is appriopriate for a cat.. it literally means "Mouser". I know you guys were thinking of it as firearms related.. but nice to have the translation. www.geocities.com/dog_names/name_your_dog_german.html |

Mine is bigger than that. 160 pounds. You may find this hard to believe, but once you have one they just seem "medium-sized". |

Interesting info from the Shiloh Shepherd registry site -
www.shilohshepherd.org/origin.html]www.shilohshepherd.org/origin.html more info- www.dogbreedinfo.com/shilohshepherd.htm]www.dogbreedinfo.com/shilohshepherd.htm the founder's site - www.shilohshepherds.org/issr,inc.htm a splinter - www.shilohs.org/ and so on. Nice looking dogs. Too bad the breeders can't band together. (damn, I guess I should look at what I type) |
|
Let's just say that the breed founder did a really wonderful thing in creating the breed -- but she has some real issues. She has lost a number of lawsuits, has some unanswered BBB complaints against her and let the situation with a couple of dog buyers get so out of hand that they filed felony complaints. It seems she promised the same dog to two people and then told them that there were no refunds and they would just have to wait until she had a dog she wanted to give them. Also, she tends be pretty dictatorial about what registered breeders can do, and seems to have problems getting the registration paperwork back to people. Being dictatorial about breed standards isn't entirely bad -- but it can get out of hand. Therefore, lots of the registered breeders have decided that the breed is an excellent idea but they would rather have a more "democratic" registry. I can't really blame them. But, as far as dogs go, you would be hard put to find a better family dog. |
