Don't like people living in freedom? Get your ass back to the suburbs and suck the tit of your HOA and enjoy that property value you hold so dear. We in the country (even those of us without a junk car collection) don't want people whining about our yards. That's why we're in the fucking country.

One or two parts cars nicely stored are enough. Beyond that, your place is an eyesore. Its people like that that cause zoning rules to be created.
Edit to add:
If you have more than 2 scrap cars, do us a favor and sell them off for the steel content. Get rid of them. You're bringing everyone else down with your lazy habits. Noone wants to live next to Fred Sanford.

No, its people like you who whine and bitch and complain that cause zoning rules to be created.  Thanks for suggesting how many "junk cars" I can have, chief.  Duelly noted.

looks like there sure are a lot of inconsiderate slobs out in the country these days.

wasn't that way when I grew up there as a kid. people actually took care not to antagonize their neighbors.

I guess everyone here lives on 50-acre spreads where they don't really have neighbors.

Why should *I* have to move because the guy next door makes his property a junkyard? Theres moderation in everything, and as that site carsinbarns that someone posted a link to clearly shows, some people take it to an extreme. Some of these HOA's go to an extreme, but they do so BECAUSE of people like the ones we are talking about.

You shouldnt have to move, you should simply mind your own business and respect the property rights of others. However if you cannot respect thier property rights then perhaps it is best that you move.

NY, USA

Your location however probably explains why that seems to be a problem for you.

Not 50, and I have plenty of neighbors. I also keep my shit squared away. But since i live out in the sticks the ARFCOM mentality will take over  and I automatically become a slob.

It is none of my business what a person does on their prop. And if it bothers me cause I can see it from my home or what not, guess what I will do. GO TALK TO THEM. BE A NIEGHBOR! Out here in the country, the people next door are friends not somebody you call zoning on

I find it funny how some folks from the city talk about how trashy we are in the country, but then fail to see the trash in the streets of the city they so cheerish.

I will take a few extra cars in my neighbors yard over needles and beer bottles in the streets anyday!

Scrap Steel - or just laziness.  My father in law had a mid 70s Volvo that had an 8 inch box elder tree growing through the floor and out through the window at the head of his driveway right by the house.  That was his "shrine" to his yuppie days as he put it.  He also had various other vehicles and junk - a broken earky 90s Escort POS that my brother in law cracked up in a drunken stupor one night, and a stripped Duster that had the engine pulled for another car - and that other car caught on fire and burned down someone elses garage a few years later.  My other BIL and I shot the Duster chassis to pieces over the space of a few summers.  The escort was kind of funny because my mother in law just planted a field of wildflowers all around it.  And one of the dogs used the backseat of the Volvo as a doghouse.

Anyway, a couple of summers ago guys were PAYING about $50 per junk car to haul them to the scrapyard, FIL pocketed a little money that day and I was surprised to see the shrine gone when I pulled in for a visit.

Right on.  I don't have any junk cars, had one taking up space in my garage for a while then got rid of that, my neighbor has a couple, but as long as fluids from his cars weren't contaminating my groundwater it wouldn't bother me if he had a hundred.  I'll just plant some pine trees.

Oh - last summer we didn't have a drop of rain for 6 weeks straight.  The grass turned brown and crunchy after 3 weeks.  I didn't mow at all during those six weeks - because the only thing growing was the weeds.  Would you people who are against eyesores have hemmed and hawed and wrung your hands over my "eyesore"?

My neighbor (the one with the junk cars and lots of old machinery) just asked me when I was going to mow my lawn and I told him I would mow it when it turned green again.  No further discussion was needed, though I could have told him I would mow it when he took me for a ride in his 70s vintage Bonneville.

Then you have to get your kids dirtbikes with really really really loud mufflers.  Make a track in your side yard right next to your neighbor's house.  Then you need to get yourself a harley with straight pipes because you know loud pipes save lives.  Then you need a 4 gigawatt stereo for your car so you can play ghetto rap real loud......then and only then will you be expressing your 'freedom'.

The rhetoric is getting a little mean-spirited.  I already have three recent posts locked; let's not make this the fourth.

Since a picture is truly worth a thousand words, in the next day or so I'll post pics of these two places I'm talking about.  These places go way beyond just storing cars.  I believe the owners of these places must be insane.

I'd rather live next to this....

Than live in the middle of this bullshit...

The first picture is a yard of someone who works on things, like my neighbor who has quite a few derelict vehicles behind his barn, where I can see them across my field. The second is a picture of lemmings elbow-to-asshole. Nameless, faceless clones marching to the same drumbeat. And, god help the guy who paints his house the wrong color, or parks a boat in his driveway. Yeah, that's preferable to joe-junkyard....not.

Some of us are picture #1, even if in spirt. And, some of us are number 2, no pun intended.

Oh, and so you don't think I'm a car-collecting slob, here's my yard:

I've never seen why people move into subdivisions.  From what I understand, a developer will basically buy land on the edge of a town, build a bunch of houses that look exactly the same, and charge people tons of $$$ to live there PLUS enforcing crazy parking rules, yard rules, ect...
FUCK THAT!!  Maybe it works for some people but not me!

I live in a apt. building in a college town, all I can afford right now, but you bet your ass I'll move out to the stix and have some land of my own someday.

swingset, nice yard!

Heck, if I lived lived in OH (or most parts of the country, for that matter) I'm quite sure I could afford a spread like that. (except I wouldn't even have to look at neighbors - what does $750k or so buy me there?) Of course, I still wouldn't want a junkyard next to me.

However, if you want a single family home in an urbanized area you're pretty much stuck with subdivisions or at least fairly dense neighborhoods.

And in the more expensive parts of the country, I suspect many of you would wind up living not even in subdivisions, but in townhomes do to the housing prices.

The cost of a half acre lot here in Fairfax county is higher than median home price for the rest of the nation. You want an acre? Good luck finding that.

750K will buy you a (take your pick) farm / woodlands / horse property of a hundred acres or more in a good school district a little outside Grand Rapids MI.  And if you go a 30 minutes to an hour outside Grand Rapids, you could buy a half section or more for that amount of money.

Just the thought of some azzhat telling me how many cars I may have in my yard makes me want to puke (Hey dumazz maybe I don't like volvos and soccer balls)for one thing beauty is in the eye of the beholder AKA some of us like junk cars some of us like smelly dairy cows some of us like to think we have some sort of right to tell the guy next door what he can or can't do with his property
I say private property rights are just as important as TRTKABA!!!

After all it is a "free country" and you have the right to offer to buy out your nieghbor or better yet the right to move back to mother Russia.

Myself I like havin a few clunkers around it keeps the taxes low and the libtard azzhats far away!!!

I have a friend like this. they live out on a farm..the past few years he has stopped but for 10yrs before that he would drive around other cities and look for old cars that had been parked (GTO's, Chevelle, mustang.........some Mopar) and buy them up...then he would take them and just let them sit in his field and now they are rotting away.  about 15yrs ago he bought a very clean 69 Blazer 2wd...not too many around that are 2wd. it was a clean runner. He tore her down to the frame, bought all new parts (back then...Chisum suspension, thats OLD SCHOOL) and thats how she sits today...new parts in a room, body out back along with the frame and everything else scattered around. I keep telling him that in a few years she is going to be the only non-restored Blazer out there.
