I used the messenger-bag type since I started carrying a laptop, until I started riding my motorcycle in.  I picked up a Victorinox backpack with laptop compartment and really like it.

The extra pockets give quicker access to my sunglasses and headphones and I can stick my thermos of coffee in one of the side pouches.  I can carry more gear more comfortably.

My company provides backpacks, so I use a backpack.

I carry my laptop with me every day in a Targus laptop backpack. But I'm not a desk jockey. I work in live event production and always have a couple of extra hard drives, my headphones, USB and Ethernet cables, a small folio with a half dozen flash drives and my iPad, as well as a spiral bound notebook and folder with miscellaneous paper work.

Single strap bags suck.

I do a wide range of stuff, from sales to service.  If I'm wearing a coat, it's a wheeled bag.  If I've got my service tech hat on, it's a backpack.

Wenger laptop backpack.

I travel a lot, so it is my carry on for air.

Same here. Targus laptop backpack.  Function over form.

Rode a motorcycle with a laptop bag...  And I'm not doing that again.

I carry mine to work in a 5.11 backpack, but our office is business casual all the time and jeans on fridays so it's not really that out of place. I also do so because it allows me to have my firearm nearby at all times without having to carry on-body at my desk all day.

Saddleback Leather Classic Briefcase is the only appropriate answer.

God have mercy on previous posters' souls...

I either use the Custom Hide '45 Army Briefcase (mine is whiskey colored) or just carry it by itself.

I work in Hospital Systems Analysis. I wear a shirt and tie to work everyday.

I use an Osprey Flapjack Courier and it holds my big ass laptop (17"), a binder, a few folders, laptop cord, headphones, two glasses cases (Sunglasses and Vision Glasses) contact solution, a flashlight, and a couple other things.
