HK MR762 - piston
LMT MRP .308 DI

Or pick up one of the $110 lowers from Brownells and build your own in 6.5 creedmoor with quality components.

Don't get me wrong...the M1A/M-14 is a cool rifle, but it hardly holds a candle to other options with regards to accuracy (without serious work), ergonomics, and optics mounting optics....not even beginning to discuss weight.

Oh, here's a LaRue OBR WITHOUT the scope and 1 mag for a reasonable $6000

For your needs I'd get the SCAR. It'll run nice and clean suppressed and will bang steel all day at 500 yards.

This.

But I would recommend a Rhino Arms .308.

I'd put its accuracy against a Larue any day and I love Larue rifles.

LMT MWS.  Rock-solid reliable, sub-MOA accuracy.

ETA:  mine had the stainless steel barrel 18"

Almost the right answer. Swap out the rail for a good one and you're there.

I love my M1A brah, but no. I'm with cms here. Any M14 is not the proper choice here. The man wants to shoot 500m. He needs a modern, ergonomic 7.62 capable of mounting optics in a non-retarded manner.
For what it's worth to people in a similar situation, My AR10 shoots under, over, and around 1 MOA with black hill 168 and an armalite "infantry weight" chrome lined barrel. No piston nonsense. Just a geisselle trigger, decent optics, and a free float tube. And it's reliable too.

Of the ones you listed OBR 20". But a FAL is the Battle Rifle.

This is what I did;
Lightweight 308 battle rifle; SCAR 17 + Elcan, Giesslie, Handl Defense Lower for mag compatibility
Midweight 308 is a LMT, 20" stainless barrel
Heavy/Precision; Barret MRAD in 338 Lapua with barrel swap to 308.

Works for me

SR25 ECC, APC, or ACC with a mk8 CQBSS gets my vote.  Accurate, reliable, and lots of features.  You might be able to snag one of the trade in EMC guns if you look around.

The LMT is pretty good.  Ability to swap barrels is nice, and you can get 6.5/7.62/.260 barrels for it.  Bit heavy, but pretty reasonably priced.

SCAR H is light and reliable, and the aftermarket is slowly catching up.

I'd be very interested in seeing/hearing from those that run an OBR like a battle rifle (ie. Run hard in 3 Gun Heavy metal class).

16" chrome moly and mine shoot way better than I ever will...which brings up a common fallacy among shooters:  a more accurate rifle will make me more accurate.

Thanks for all the feedback and thoughts on this guys/gals .... Lots of really good options in the $2500-$3500 price range .... I would like a SR25 (KAC) but I am just not sure I can justify the price over one of the other options

Lots of nice rigs posted up in here as well
