Agreed.

I don't know how the fuck someone who was born in the early 80s can be lumped in with someone born in the 90s.

There's a HUGE difference in mentality in just 10 years apart. For example, selfies weren't part of my generation, nor were cell phones or internet. I didn't have internet or a computer until my senior year in high school, and didn't have a cell phone until after that. It just wasn't commonplace, and people actually hung out and talked with one another. My generation also fought in Afghanistan and Iraq. How the fuck can that be lumped in with millennials... the same people I interview for positions at my workplace?

The difference between being born and raised in the 80s into the 90s, and being born and raised in the 90s into the 2000s and 2010s is absolutely massive. If anything, millenials should be birth years 1990 to 2005ish.

My maternal grandad was born in '25 and he served in the Air Corps.

My dad was born in '47 and is certainly not a hippie, he would be more like the silent generation.

I was born in '83 and I will not identify as a millennial under any circumstances. Gen X for me.

So all they can understand is the whiners from our generation and the shitty app bubble because theres a segment on good morning america about the latest silicon valley hustle.

Still going with GI, they really stepped up at home and abroad when needed. I beleive if faced with similar circumstanses other generations would have done the same but given the fact that they did makes them the greatest among the living atm. imo anyway.

Except that's just not how generations work. It doesn't matter that it hurts your feelings to be a Millennial.

Each generation occupies a space of appx two decades, regardless of how society changed during that time. With the advent of the internet and mobile technologies we had different experiences than our younger generational representatives but you're still in the same generation.

I'd also like to highlight the irony of someone saying "I don't like what that word means so I'm going to redefine it so it doesn't hurt my feelings". That's exactly what those hated Millennials would do.

Yeah but most don't know how to call-up and kill a wild turkey.....And if they did somehow manage it they would fuck it up cooking it.

Jokes aside the only bad thing I have noticed about your generation is you sort of suck at life. Maybe in the future a "cyber story" will make someone laugh but I see it as a very poor substitute for the stories told at any hunt camp of my generation.

I'm really not seeing a cyber Jerry Clower in your future.

While there is truth to this, it has to be taken in the context that they truly believed the media at the time and they assumed that they were being told truth by their leaders.  My grandfather deeply believed that FDR was a good man...when we all know he wasn't.

They were not politically savy and had a naive view of how honest their government was at the time.

Additionally, they assumed that their children understood a lot of their values, when in reality...they didn't.  They were not good parents.

It's a rough metric, so obviously there's wiggle room at the ends.

Does it really matter THAT much what one is classified as?

If it is that important call yourself a Gen Y 1.0, and the younger Gen Y 1.1.

Same Gen but updated.

The term "millennial" was coined in 1987 and referred to those born in 1982 and after (basically, those in either primary or secondary school at the turn of the millennium).
The term "generation y" was coined in 1993 (yes, 6 years after "millenials") and referred to those 11 years old or younger. Notice that those who were 11 in 1993 were born in 1982.

Millennial and Gen Y are identical.

Your "generations" are all messed up.  A generation is one 18 year-cycle; the time it takes for the first babies born in the generation to become adults.  Then you start a new generation.

In addition, most people consider the "GI Generation" to extend from 1910 to 1927.  If you turned 18 years old during WWII, then you were part of the GI Generation; most high school grads got drafted in 1945.

Plus the "Baby Boom Generation" is named after the post war baby boom that occurred when horny young American men, fresh from destroying Fascism and Imperialism (but not Communism ), came home, got married, and created babies en masse.  The Baby Boom goes from 1946 to 1964.

There are two distinct groups of the Baby Boom Generation:  The nihilistic Hippie Boomers, represented by the Clintons, then the post-Viet Nam Boomers, who despised the antics of their older siblings and voted for Ronald Reagan.

I'm in the latter group, of course.

Milennials raised by boomers? That's the first I've heard of that; I guess it requires older parents or stretching the term "milennial".
Yeah, I blame the parents as well. It takes effort to raise such helpless children. As I've grown up, I've seen the inevitable disaster that comes when a generation that has been treated as children for their entire lives is released into the world with little to nothing in the way of basic skills. I think I beat it, but more by necessity and determination than anything taught by my parents.

I personally vote for boomers. I barely knew any of the GI generation in my family; most of them lived far enough away that I only met them a handful of times in my life. I am closer to my grandparents than my parents, and am good friends with a number of boomer-generation veterans, quite a few of whom have seen combat. I vote boomers because of the guys who went to Southeast Asia without the support of a good chunk of the population. Doing the unpopular but necessary will always strike me as more admirable than doing the popular and necessary, but that may just be my own nonconformist morality speaking.

Boomers - 1943-1964
Millennials - 1980-2000

Typically people have kids between age 24-35.  Boomers were having kids from 1967-1999 while Gen X was having kids from 1989-2014; therefore, Boomers own almost every bit of Millennials.

Millennials - 1982-1999

Typically people have kids between age 24-35.  Boomers were having kids from 1967-1999 while Gen X was having kids from 1989-2014; therefore, Boomers own almost every bit of Millennials.
I LOLed.  Where's that fool been living all these years?

I'll take it one step further and risk the charge of being a Genuine Asshole, but what is traditionally granted as being the "Best Generation" wasn't the best generation.  The trend has been steadily upwards.

It's funny that people try to define any of the generations by what wars they fought in.

The percentage of the population that goes into the military is small, like really small.

Even in WW2 less than 10% served and over 60% of them were drafted. It's silly to try to characterize an entire generation by their military service.
